Have you ever confession your sins to mankind?? There is no place in the Bible that say that you must confess your sins to any Preacher of any kind FACT. For many years some churches think you must confess your sins to a preacher and he will forgive your sins. That my dear brother's/sister's is nothing but lies from the pit of hell. There is no place in the Bible that God give that power to any preacher of any kind "FACT"!! Only Jesus can forgive your sins, no one else can do that FACT!! Will God forgive you if you keep on sinning, the answer is "NO". If you do something wrong and you know it wrong, that is called "SIN"....

Jesus continues his example of priestly forgiveness in the Old Testament.

Leviticus 4:13-21
"Priests shall make atonement for them, and they will be forgiven."
Leviticus 5:14-26
Sin offering brought to the Old Testament priests, who make atonement for sinners' forgiveness.
See also:
Leviticus 4:25-27, Leviticus 5:5, Numbers 5:8

Confession is not a private affair in the Bible.

Leviticus 5:14-26
Public confession with animal sacrifice.
Numbers 5:6-7
"Man ... commits a fault ... he shall confess the wrong he has done."
Matthew 3:6
"Baptized by him ... as they acknowledged their sins."
Acts 19:18
"Believers came forward and openly acknowledged their former practices."
James 5:16
"Confess your sin to one another ... that you may be healed."
See also
Leviticus 26:39-42, Psalms 32:3-5, Proverbs 28:13, Mark 1:5

Jesus has power to forgive sins.

Matthew 9:1-8
Healing of paralytic - "Which is easier to say your sins are forgiven or ..." Son of Man has the authority to forgive sins.
Mark 2:10
Jesus says the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth.
Luke 7:48
"He said to her, Your sins are forgiven."
1 John 5:16
There is sin that is not deadly.
See also:
Acts 2:38, 1 John 1:9

Jesus gives his power to forgive sins to His priests.

Matthew 16:19
Jesus gives the Apostles the power to bind and loose sins.
Matthew 18:18
Whatever you bind and loose on earth, so it is in Heaven.
John 20:22
If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven; if you retain anyone’s sins, they are retained.
John 20:23
After saying this he breathed on them and said: Receive the Holy Spirit.(Recall Genesis 2:7)
2 Corinthians 5:17-20
"God ... has reconciled us to himself ... given us the ministry of reconciliation."
James 5:14-15
"Presbyters of the church ... pray over him ... he will be forgiven." (Prayer of presbyters forgives sin.)

The sacrament of reconciliation is a beautiful healing of the relationship between God and a sinner. The priest's role is facilitator.

It's just as well you don't believe in the confessional when you consider the number of whoopers you've told. The priests would have to work a shift rota to get through them all!

I know very little about the Catholic Faith, but here is a verse that could be interpreted as confess to priests.

However, from what I have been told by the few Catholics I know, they confess to the priest AND to God at the same time, and both forgive thus fulfilling both parts of scripture (confess to one another and confess to God). Maybe I am misinformed.

James 5:14-16

14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Here is what the Scripture's on Confession:

Psalm 32:5....
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid, I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.
1 John 1:9....
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Proverbs 28:13....
He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy
James 5:16....
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Matthew 10:32,33....
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in Heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in Heaven. Part One....

The Catholic Church understands and interprets scripture VERY well.
After all, the New Testament is a Catholic document.
Bible Doctrine came out of the Catholic Church.

You quoted James, which states we are to confess to one another, and that prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Catholics confess to priests who they feel, on an individual basis, are righteous men. While in the confessional, they are confessing to God as well. Confess to each other, seek prayer from a righteous man, confess to God. They are earnestly trying to doing all three.

Like many of the complaints against Catholics I see on Topix, I do not understand your complaint. They are obeying scripture, yet you have issue with that. There are many things I do not understand about the Catholic faith, but why do people complain in instances when they are obeying scripture.

God bless you and yours.
