I'm sick and tired of the lies and fighting on here. Can't we have at least one forum, one attempt for both believers and non-believers to both find peace and get along? Is that not an impossible thing to ask too much of? Or am I being too idealistic? Comments would be most appreciated.

Yeah, you've got a point there, but still everyone here is always arguing to no end. It's frustrating.

Yep, that describes Atheism.

I guess it depends what you mean by "get along". If you mean come to the same conclusion, I'd say yea that is a bit "idealistic". If you mean discuss differences in belief without the insults/condemnations,then I dont think its impossible. But look at the first post in this thread and you can see what you're up against.

Wants to discuss "intelligently" but uses insults to attempt to do so. Thats what you're up against Lelouch

Forums with loose or no moderation are going to attract those who cannot release their frustrations, anger, rudeness, hatred, etc.... in other more regulated venues. Many here, both Christians and non-Christians, thrive on petty one liners that they did not tire of in elementary school. Many others thrive on the strife of others.

Christians who choose to follow Christ are called to live in peace with everyone, as much as we can, regardless of how we are treated in the beginning or in return (Romans 12:18). We are called to love and bless our enemies (Matthew 5:44). We are called to give more than is asked of us (Luke 6:29). We are called to not gossip (Proverbs 6:16-19). We are commanded to curb our tongues (Ephesians 4:29).

Christians are without excuse for their dismal behaviour. Our rules are written clearly for us in the Bible. Obedience requires great effort, but none the less, Christ requires obedience (John 14:15). Sadly, many choose another path, yet still choose to proclaim Christ. Christ knew this would happen (Matthew 7:21-23).

On the other hand, to be here at Topix means we accept it for what it is. Until human nature itself changes, Topix will not.

I hope you had a great weekend and when Topix becomes to much, do yourself a favor and take a break. Topix can be quite Toxic.

:D Thank you for your kind words. I myself get along quite amiably with many Christians offline. Our differences in belief do not affect our relationship at all. I do like some of the proverbs from the Bible. My favorites would have to be "Phillipians 4:8....think on these things, whatsoever is true, whatsoever is noble, whatsoever is pure, whatsoever is right, whatsoever is lovely."

I remember my junior high school having that quote above it in the auditorium and noticing that and being struck by the beauty of it. I did not know it was from the Bible at the time, but it indeed is a wise quote that I try to live by.

I also like the I spake as a child and thought as a child, but when I grew up I set aside childish things.

I too get taken aback by the purposeful effrontery, but yes Lelouch0, you are being too idealistic.
After all, this IS a debate forum.:)
It's just a shame that the intellectually challenged choose to get nasty instead of taking the opportunity to listen and learn.

Well, it didn't take too long for this place to turn into arguing. Just what I expected to have happen. Well, nice debate is good as well and I don't see too much name-calling.....yet.

True. Albeit, misplaced faith.

If faith had a cost upfront, I think people would exercise it more prudently.

Maybe the way to go could be to start a conversation about whatever it is you wish to discuss, and then try hard not to engage anyone who is clearly not interested in reasonable dialogue. I think certain people have become so blind to how arrogant and insulting they are, that unless they change their tone, it may be better for their own sake, if others don't engage with them.

For example; I don't think the direction dollarsbill is currently going in is worth persuing.

The problem is, it only needs to take one other person to decide to engage with the insults, to totally disrupt a thread. And the disruptive types are often experts at trying to suck people into slanging matches.

wow...what is it you would like to discuss intellectually?.. religious tards have been asked repeatedly to demonstrate anything supernatural.. prove any gods... just one demo of prayers working i.e. restore heather mills missing leg....

not a single response to any of those requests.... now tell us again, who is unwilling to discuss anything? is it the believers or the non-believers?....
