when Christ died on the cross, do they imply they can sin and will be automatically forgiven?

If so,what good is the bible?

Yes, I'm an Atheist.

Some people believe in OSAS - once saved always saved. Some people don't and they debate over it. To me, in order to follow Jesus we must obey, in order to do that, we need the Bible to guide us. If we don't follow God's teachings then we would fall away and possibly turn from God. There's probably a lot more to it but that's just my understanding.

It is a common but by no means unanimous conclusion that the origin of the word 'cretin' is 'christian'. If the forum is any indication folks who think their sins will be automatically forgiven once they recite a few silly incantations have shown themselves to be too mentally shortchanged to be capable of sin.

We are supposed to repent of our sins up to the time we accept Christ. Those sins are forgiven. Then we are commanded to OBEY Christ as much as within our power for the remainder of our life. If we sin, we must repent of those sins.

Salvation comes with a few conditions:

1. We must freely forgive others or our sins will not be forgiven. Matthew 6:14-15

2. We must obey Christ. Willfully and repeatedly sinning are abusing grace and there is no longer forgiveness when someone willfully and repeatedly sins, even if they repent each time. Hebrews 10:26-29. No person can take our salvation from us, but we can forfeit our salvation should we refuse to obey Christ. Hebrews 6:4-8

Unless the transgression was against you, you would not "see" the repentance.

Not all who profess Christ belong to Christ Matthew 7:21-23.

Once you understand the basic message (of Jesus, etc) and understand it more than intellectually - what purpose does the Bible really serve? The message doesn't change, so why all the attention (excess IMO) to a book that has so much conflict and contradiction surrounding it?

It seems that the Bible gets way too much attention - defending it mainly - over the main theme of Jesus' message - and IMO, has become an idol of worship that distracts too many people from doing any real hard spiritual work.

IMO, too many Xtians hide in their Bibles, using it as a shield to hide behind, a crutch to lean on when what they really need to do is "walk the talk" unaided, and do the hard work of self-analysis, awareness, etc...

2. What if inescapable conditions put a person in a place where they do sin repeatedly, but are truly sorry for them...? What then?

Come on now, lets be honest and admit that MOST Xtians repent (usually in some ritualistic manner) and never do any sort of "forgiveness tour" among those they have hurt...they perform the "ritual" (be it a recognized one or not) and go on their merry way...and everyone around them is supposed to look the other way at their past behaviors, because they've "found God, got themselves right with Religion."

I am learning more about the answer to this question being here on Topix.

1. I just learned a few weeks ago that some believe that the Bible is actually Christ. Hence to worship the Bible is to worship Christ.

2. Some believe there is great merit to be had from God through rouge memorization of scripture.

I do enjoy reading scripture, but I do not worship it. I can learn a new nuance almost every time I read. However, Christ's simple message stays the same. Love God, Love each other, and Obey Christ.

Not all who profess Christ belong to Him. Belonging to Christ is the narrow path because many who profess Christ refuse to obey Him. Belief is easy--even Satan believes in Christ, obedience requires great effort and much introspection.

I am a human thus I am associated with all other humans by default. That is not my choice; however, who I am yoked is my choice and I am not yoked to anyone but my husband.

The best I can hope to do is to honor Christ through my obedient behaviour.

When a real Christian, not you, accepts Christ and receives the Holy Spirit, he is saved and salvation has no condition. The only unpardonable sin is rejecting the Holy Spirit once having received it.
If you continue to disobey and hate Jesus by smoking which is a drug and drinkikng alcohol, then your issue is that you are not saved and you love your sinful life.
There is no such thing as a gay or prostitute who is a Christian. Simple choices.

When we talk about the cross....we are talking about the BLOOD of Jesus Christ which washes away our sins. Getting saved aka born again aka new creature in Christ is a powerful experience and conversion. I still remember the very day I got saved and that was many years ago.

When someone gets TRULY saved, our sins are thrown into the depth of the sea to be remembered no more against us. Only Satan and his filthy demented demons try to bring up a saved Christian's past. But we have an old saying about that..........When the Devil brings up your past, it means he is running out of ammo to use against you. GLORY TO GOD!

==========

John 3:3- Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
----------

John 3:36- He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
----------

2 Corinthians 5:17-Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
----------

1 Timothy 1:15- This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
----------

2 Corinthians 5:21- For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
----------

Colossians 1:14- In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

----------
----------

Hebrews 13:20-21
20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
----------

1 Peter 1:18-19
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

----------

Romans 10:9-10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Micah 7:18-19
18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

The Holy Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, 100% accurate Word of God. The unbelievers had hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years to prove the bible wrong or find even one TRUE contradiction.......yet they couldn't. Sure anyone can twist scripture out of context and try to call it a "contradiction"..... .but anyone with even a shred of commonsense can see right through these demonic asinine lies.

I'm unapologetic in my belief that the bible is the preserved Word of God and that it is the absolute final say in all matters concerning my beliefs. All Christians ought to be reading and studying it daily......let's quote a few scriptures.........

----------
2 Timothy 2:15- Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

----------
2 Timothy 3:16- All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

----------
Ephesians 6:17- And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

----------
Psalm 12:6-7
6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

----------
Proverbs 30:5-6
5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

----------
2 Timothy 4:2- Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

Glad to hear that. If those verses can be trusted my sins will be forgiven. Thing is, I'm not the one pretending day in and day out to be God. That's you. My sins are trivial compared to yours and far fewer in number so it's you that should concern yourself with the possibility that God may just get sick and tired of you and throw in the fundie, so to speak.

I'll not be praying for you because if the New Testament is to be trusted you have already sold your soul in exchange for arrogance and false pride.
