I did not say that the Mormons did not follow the OT and NT. I am aware that the LDS claim that the BOM is another testimony of Jesus Christ. When either the NT/OT contradicts the BOM, faithful LDS claim that the OT/NT is translated wrong. What I said was there is no archaeological or historical evidence which substantiates the events, places or peoples depicted in the BOM. The BOM was supposedly written in "reformed Egyptian," although the people supposedly came from Israel. Israelties would never use an alphabet which originated in Egypt. There is no record of "reformed Egyptian," other than one handwritten copy, anywhere in North or South America.
Other than the bible what evidence to you have of the existence of the people and events that are written in the bible? Al, can you pinpoint the location of the Garden of Eden, the resting spot of the Ark?

<quoted text>I dunno 15th, what confuses me is this. What makes fundies think that thier version of Christianity is more valid than any other religion or sect of Christianity? As an atheist I am given greiff every day for questioning religion, an am told that's its wrong for me to question the beliefs of others, yet Al, Mrs Tickled and others can claim that Mormons are not christian, they say that all others religions are false. How does that work?

We've got a pretty good handle on the location of the Garden of Eden.
God plopped that Garden smack dab in the middle of a Mesopotamian barley farm.

LOL, that's the way you narrow down a location. By chance map coordinates, GPS?

When John Kennedy was running for president many Protestants and Jews had concerns about his Roman Catholic faith. Many voters were fearful that his faith would require him to “take orders from the Vatican”. In a speech to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association on September 12, 1960 he addressed the issue:

“I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish—where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source—where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials.”

That was an excellent response to the question. Questioning a candidate’s personal religious convictions goes against everything this country stands for. However, questioning the ability of an elected public official to put aside his/her personal religious convictions in the performance of his/her public duties is legitimate. That’s why candidates like Michelle Bachman and Rick Santorum are disqualified from public office by my way of thinking. I refuse to vote for any candidate that wears his/her religion on their sleeve. Romney obviously keeps his religious convictions to himself which is a plus, but I’m not going to vote for him anyhow.

I agree with famous, pioneering psychologist William James when he says:

"Religion… shall mean… the feelings, acts, and experiences of individual men in their solitude, so far as they apprehend themselves to stand in relation to whatever they may consider the divine."

Jesus failed to:
1. have the correct genealogy by being descended from King David and King Solomon,
2. be anointed King of Israel,
3. return the Jewish People to Israel,
4. rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem,
5. bring peace to the world and end all war,
6. bring knowledge of God to the world.

THE BIBLE'S MESSIANIC CRITERIA ARE EMPIRICALLY VERIFIABLE: "Faith" is irrelevant to the Jewish concept of the Messiah ben David, because an individual either fulfills these prophetic criteria or he doesn't. Christianity requires faith that Jesus is their "messiah" precisely because he didn't fulfill any of the Jewish messianic criteria. Christianity's concept of faith in Jesus is therefore a substitute for this defect. It is important to note that the fulfillment of each of the six Jewish messianic criteria is empirically verifiable and therefore no faith is required to determine the identity of the Jewish Messiah ben David. For example, the entire world will be able to observe that the Temple has been rebuilt, the Jews have returned to Israel, the entire world believes in God, and the world is at peace. Virtually none of the Christian messianic "proofs" are empirically verifiable.

lol
I rarely discuss Christianity outside of topix. I discuss Christianity here because I have a reasonable understanding of it and find it interesting. To say that me discussing Christianity somehow proves it true is infantile.

If it's anywhere, it's in Jonah. That's where the resurrection prophecy is alleged to be found. I think I'll read it now.
The NT references a number of allegedly fulfilled OT passages as proof that Jesus is the messiah. Read in context, those passages often have nothing to do with the messiah.

Hello Nettiebelle,

That is incorrect. Both the Luther Bible and the King James Bible included the Deuterocanonical books.

My Mexican Bible Society Bible states in the preface to the Deuterocanonicals it will not comment on the canonicity of the books.

I thought it was a Catholic Bible. I better check that out.

Nope! But there are a great many locations spoken of in the Bible which have been identified. Unlike Mormonism which cannot produce any extra-BOM evidence for any country, city or language in the BOM.

The Two Messiahs

As the rabbis studied the prophetic writings concerning the Messiah they realized that most Messianic prophecies seem to fall into two categories. The Messiah was to be both someone who died on our behalf and a Redeemer who would be victorious and rule forever over the Messianic Kingdom. To explain what seemed like a contradiction they concluded that there must be two different Messiahs. The one who would suffer and die was given the title Mashiach ben Yosef (Messiah son of Joseph) and one who would reign as king was given the title Mashiach ben David (Messiah son of David).

The Suffering Messiah:(Messiah Son of Joseph)

The Ruling Messiah:(Messiah Son of David)

Just a thought after reading this thread.
Does a "Christian " not vote for someone because they've decided the belief system that person follows is not "Christian " to then vote for someone they believe follows a "Christian" belief system but has openly stated a belief that goes against "Christian" teaching?
IOW.......Why condemn one based on being Mormon, but not the other based on personal beliefs that contradict "Christian" teachings?

If you vote based on religious beliefs, then you're pretty much screwed for this election.

Hello,

Today's first reading was Genesis 2 where God made Eve out of a rib, imagine that. The Gospel was Jesus talking about divorce in Mark 10.

Padre's sermon on marriage scaled the wall dividing church from state and he even peeked over the side a few times but I don't think he said anything illegal.

God bless you.

Um, first of all Jesus said simply to follow Him He didn't say follow or join up sign up to no religion! To follow Jesus is not a religion it is instruction given from the Heavenly Father for everyone to do so. And it is absolutely valid because the Bible says so and the Bible is true.....thy word is truth. John 17:17
