A NT interpretation of the OT is not "the authority" to me. I'm happy to work from the assumption that the OT is an authoritative source if you like.
Allen Richards wrote:
It was a reference to what happened to a relatively small segment of Israel, not the majority.
Regardless, that verse is taken completely out of context by the gospel author of Matthew.
Allen Richards wrote:
I'm sure you think your opinion is reasonable but you are trying to reinterpret scripture.
No, "Matthew" is trying to reinterpret it.
Allen Richards wrote:
Why do you think the views of as yet unidentified "Jews" more valid than the gospel authors?
What makes one interpretation of the OT more valid than another (in your opinion)?

I consider both the OT and NT authoritative.

Matthew did not consider his citation "out of context." The early church and the church since then also did not think the citation was out of context.

QED that Matthew reintereted scripture.

The interepration of scripture which appears in scripture and the acceptance of the church is more valid that opinions expressed 1970 years +/- later.

Understood, but note that I wont agree to that.

What the church considers authoritative is irrelevant to my viewpoint. In any scriptural discussion with Christians, I will always be happy to accept the assumption that the OT is authoritative.

Lets agree to disagree.

OK. I'm not sure what you want from me. If I find interpretations of OT scripture that were made before 32AD, will you accept them?

This is the Christian sub-forum if you reject the NT which makes us Christians we have nothing further to talk about.

Not necessarily, see previous reply.

It's none of your BUSINESS if I vote or not. That plain enough for you? So if I complain you won't know if I have voted or not and that will just drive you stark raving mad, won't it? LMAO
On second thought, please DON'T vote. It's better that morons don't have any say. Things don't need to be even more screwded up then they already are.

Mad? Seeing what a clueless idiot you are makes me GRATEFUL that you're too lazy to get informed and do your civic duty. You must be so proud of yourself....Hahahaha

<quoted text>IMO the idea of looking for a singular correct interpretation is a mistake. The bible is a book of philosophy and wisdom from the perspective of ancient men. Nothing more, nothing less. In that light, it's an interesting book full of useful information. When people claim it as absolute truth or an instruction manual for life, they're completely missing the point.
Interesting. I agree.

That's debatable. Nevertheless, this is not a rant. This is infantile blather.

I just took a closer look at our pic in your Avatar.
What kind of haircut is that?
Are you wearing a hair piece?

That is how I had to cut my hair when I was learning to be an officer and a gentleman. I left it that way until a few months after that picture because it was a lot easier to take care of "in country," where amenities were scarce. For example, our toilet was 1/2 a 55 gallon drum and the contents were burnt with diesel fuel every day. No hair piece and I still don't have one.

I knew plenty of Army officers in my time, and now of them had a haircut quite like yours.

Except one guy who tried to cut his own and botched it.

The top is not quite long enough to comb and if the hair on the sides was long enough to be pulled it was too long. That is called "high and tight." I'm glad that you are such an expert.
