Security warning for those less internet savvy:

Sending e-mails off site is dangerous. Every time a person sends an e-mails they are revealing their IP address. This is a very bad idea as it can be tracked, with enough effort, right down to your street address. It can also be used to find out where else you post.

Internet security tips:

1. Get a 1 hour e-mail address or set up a dummy e-mail address with no personal information in it to that you use only to register for forums you want to post on.

2. Never use the same user name from forum to forum as your user name can be put into google and every site you ever posted on will come up. Piecing together information you reveal from different sites may provide too much personal information about you.

3. Do not give out your e-mail address (even a dummy e-mail account) on a public forum because that address can be tracked to reveal every place on the internet you have ever used that addy.

4. Do not click on links from people you do not know AND trust. Every time you go to a website, you leave your IP address behind in a log.

Topix has t-mail, and so far as I can tell, that is reasonably safe. Use it wisely. If a person wants to communicate with you off public forum, they will register so they can receive T-mail.

Be safe everyone please. It is not just your own safety you risk by revealing too much information...it is your family's safety as well.

I have posted this information almost EVERY single time I see ANYONE asking another to e-mail them. It is nothing personally against you. Too many people do not know how to protect themselves on the internet. I have no idea your intentions, and your intentions are irrelevant to my general advice.

I have watched three people on this site alone be tracked down and they and their families harassed in real life by other Topix posters. I have read of others on topix who were tracked down and lost their jobs due to another person harassing them at work. Countless law suits have been filed through Topix when people's real identities are discovered and then they are defamed and personally injured. If they had followed the advice I now give freely and often, that would not have happened. If I can stop that from happening to even one other person, I will gladly do so.

You are free to post your own e-mail address anywhere you wish. I am not asking you stop. I am mentioning the hazards of doing so, but if you wish to continue, please feel free to do so.

I am sorry you take my desire to protect others personally. It is advice I have posted countless other times and I will post it again countless times. It has absolutely nothing to do with you and everything to do with others who may not be internet security savvy.

The only time anyone can get your ip address through an email is if they send you a website link and you click onto that link.

I will not send any of you any web site links.

And I cannot get your ip address from your email.

161,000,000 Million hits on Google on how to find the e-mail address of the sender in the header of the e-mail:

https://www.google.com/#q=IP+address+in+e-mai...

Or Google it yourself "IP address in e-mails".

An except from just one site for those who do not click on links:

"Internet emails are designed to carry the IP address of the computer from which the email was sent. This IP address is stored in an email header delivered to the recipient along with the message. Email headers can be thought of like envelopes for postal mail. They contain the electronic equivalent of addressing and postmarks that reflect the routing of mail from source to destination. "

God does not rebuke those who protect or care for those more vulnerable:

Matthew 25:40

40 “The King will reply,‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

You are welcome. I have watched way to much pain on this site caused by people who simply did not know they were giving away information that could cause them harm. Once the damage is done, it can never be undone either. It is just appalling to watch knowing there is nothing that can be done to repair the damage.

Sorry, I never give out my e-mail just as I will not give out my street address. IMO, internet security needs to be a required course in elementary school. Too many have suffered grave consequences including death by not observing some simple security rules.

Read the above post for the proof you requested.
