The Pope Says The Entire Christian Calender Is Wrong
http://www.businessinsider.com/the-pope-says-...

The idea that Christ was born on Dec 25 also has no basis in historical fact. "We don't even know which season he was born in. The whole idea of celebrating his birth during the darkest part of the year is probably linked to pagan traditions and the winter solstice."

The Pope finally admitted that the early Catholic Church decided to move the celebration of Christ's birth to coincide with the immensely popular Pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice, stealing such Pagan traditions as the Yule tree, the elf who brings toys to children, and gift giving.
That was the only way the corrupt church could get its members. Steal their pagan religion and sprinkle in a little Christianity and try to make it pleasing to the world. The catholic church wants to be a part of the worldly system , expanding its own coffers.

That's why Christ said,,,

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

The Catholic church has always used its power and authority to enforce the acceptance of teachings that are contrary to the Biblical teachings.
You hit the nail.

That could well be true.
You missed something though, Wayne.
Jesus referred to what we refer to as the Old Testament many times in his preaching because He knew the listeners were JEWS and would more readily listen to Him if He did so.

Wayne, this is old news.
You can find this info on many Catholic sites as they readily admit to this.
December 25th was a pagan holiday and that is exactly why that date was chosen to commemorate the birth of Jesus.
I believe Easter has to do with the moon cycles and MrsMurphy is most likely right about that one also.

All true Christians believe in the Garden of Eden story. It's the word of God therefore it is the truth. I believe every single thing in the bible is true. Luckily I don't have a pope telling me what to believe, I have the word of God.

Matthew 7:21-23
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The "literal" meaning of a passage of Scripture is the meaning that the author of that passage of Scripture intended to convey. The "literalist" interpretation of a passage of Scripture is: "that's what it says, that's what it means."
Literal, or Catholic, interpretation vs. literalist, or fundamentalist, interpretation.

IMO what you meant to say was 'all true fundamentalists', not 'all true Christians'.
That is more truthful.

what you have offered here is a hodgepodge collection of cherry picked scripture with some sort of intention of this supporting your posts?

No, He referred to the OT writings because they were and ARE the Words of God. He didn't sugar coat anything. He used them to SHOW Who He WAS and they, the Jews, rejected and crucified Him.

So Nettie, since you are the resident catholic apologist, just WHY did they do that?

Easter had to do with the fertility rites of the Pagans.

I believe Murphy was once a Catholic or at least attended Catholic schools.
She knows a great deal about the Catholic faith; you, Wayne, do not.

She has every right to her own beliefs just as you do and I do.

Wayne,'Bible alone' does not work.
That is what is wrong with the Protestant faith and many Protestant leaders/pastors have said so.
There is no unity; there are thousands of different Protestant churches and more spring up almost weekly.
That is one definite thing the Catholic Church does have...unity. What is taught in a Catholic Church in the U.S. is also taught in a Catholic Church in any other country. The beliefs are all the same, the teachings are all the same.
Sure, there is friction especially in the U.S. amongst the Catholic congregations and this is mostly political.

Mel Gibson does not accept Vatican II.
He built his own church in CA and his church is not recognized by the Vatican.

The Catholic Church is being honest about the history of Christianity. They have admitted that Genesis is based on earlier Pagan stories, and now they are admitting that Christian holidays were placed at the same time as Pagan holidays. That's more than you'll get from the fundies.
