The Bible, all the way from Genesis through Revelation, has only served to expose the primitive world views of its supposed writers.
This is an obsolete collection, of silly myths, puerile fables, useless fairy tales and irrelevant folk-lores, that has persistently thrived, through the ages gone by till date, on the inhibitions of fear of the earthly man.
Were the least intelligent of all humans to venture to read it with his brain and mind intact, he would readily come to the stark realization that the Bible has nothing useful in its entirety to offer humanity.
But the ever-present fear of the unknown, of the supposed agony of the so-called hell-fire, and of the imagined effect of the curse placed at the close of the last book forbidding subtraction from or addition to the shammed 'prophecy of the scroll', all these have more or less crippled the thinking and the critical mind of the reader.

And now that mankind has outgrown its need to breath, love, eat, speak, and think..
the stories no longer speak to us..
[sarc.. off]

Thats without even speaking to God existance.

If you do not believe in God, then the Bible is a work of fictional literature to you. Do you have such strong, negative emotions towards all works of fiction, or only the Bible? For example, do you frequently point out the failings and improbability of Mother Goose rhymes, The Lord of the Rings series, The Wizard of Oz and/or Harry Potter? If you only spend your time pointing out your concerns about the Bible, why do you limit yourself to it alone? Do have a link to other websites that you frequent that point out the fallacies of works of fiction such as the mythology of the Greek Gods, Alice's Adventures Underground, George Orwell's 1984, War of the Worlds or any other great works of fiction? I am curious if your potent emotions are limited to the Bible, or if they include other literary works as well.

I hope you have a great week!

Well, you and others who may agree with you can believe all that you have said and that's fine and dandy,I can respect your point of view because you are being straight forward about it and not pretending to believe or doing any other kind of BS on here.
However, like you,I too have my own opinion about it and my opinion says that I believe that the Bible is not dead, the word of God is just alive today as it was since the beginning of time.
Now can I convince you that God is real and that the Bible is the word of God?,probably most likely not
As the old saying goes,"you can lead a horse to water but you can't make the horse drink the water."
Nevertheless,I wish you and yours all the best, may you and yours live a long, happy, healthy and prosperous life.

An excellent post!!! In addition to this, I would ask, what drives them here to state these things? They do go out of their way, don't they?

If it were recorded in the Bible that Moses had gone down the rabbit hole the fundies would be screaming "Off with his head!" That historical event is not, however, recorded so they are screaming "You're going to hell!"

Upon a bit of research on this poster, it appears he/she is a Muslim. What likely drives this poster here is that there a disturbing amount of Christians on the Islam forum (this poster's threads as well) telling the Muslims, sadly in a quite rude fashion, how wrong the Muslims are for their beliefs.

So, IMO, it is just as inappropriate and pointless for the Christians to be posting their views of the failings of Islam on the Islam forum as it is for the Muslims to be posting their views of the failings of Christianity here.

God bless you and yours.

OK, I'll pick up the gauntlet. It is monumentally chickenshit to change other people's comments; a practice you have recently adopted. How do you defend that monumentally chickenshit tactic?

Interesting.

Are you saying the Bible IS a work of fiction? That its simply a popular work of literature? If not your analogy is no good. If you are not even close to agreeing that most of the book is fictional in origin, especially the magical parts - then your analogy is absolutely no good! Its absolutely useless.

Last time I checked no one burned any witches, or tortured people, rounded up peoples for their beliefs and murdered them, or treated family and friends with hate and/or committed any other act of violence, etc - BECAUSE of beliefs that Harry Potter, LOTR, etc - were not fiction and were full of instructions from their main characters to act that way towards others...!

While some zealot, geeky fans of these works of fiction might wait in line for hours (for a new release) and be extremely rude to each other, and the store staff - none have launched attacks on the neighboring villages, burned anyone alive, and caused a great deal of mayhem because those or any works of fiction were being interpreted to give instructions to do so...no one is starting a Cult claiming they are not fiction. Or creating a hierarchy of Leaders in order to control the messages readers get from them.

As to the critique of the above mentioned classic tomes, or any works of fiction - there is plenty out there if one is interested. Many literature classes involve critique of the classics, etc...

Now think about the reality that IF I, or anyone promoted a class/lecture that said in some form that the Bible, a work of fiction was going to be critically reviewed for style, content, continuity, etc...THERE WOULD BE a line of protestors outside, and/or many calls and emails to the location hosting the class/lecture to NOT allow such blasphemy or suffer the consequences!

Not gonna happen for Orwells' works, etc...

What exactly would the fallacies of say...Orwells work be? If we define fallacy as normal...as "the quality of being false or wrong." Other than "1984" not playing out in the exact manner as written - he was still damn close and a damn good prophet at that! Actually a very good prophet - better than all of the ones in the Bible!

Nope just calling Believers who worship the Bible liars. Like YOU!

Where in the Bible does this God praise the book? Even mention the Bible in any real way?

Get your God to do some actual speaking on his own behalf (that we can all hear at the same time)...and not thru evil book worshipers who spew bile and hatred...! Until then its ALL about folks like YOU! Its always been about Bible worshipers like you and always will! Its evil and vile humans like YOU that many reject!
