What helps you grow in your faith? The Barna Group, a Christian polling organization, asked American adults that question. They listed prayer, family, friends, reading the Bible, even having children. But going to church did not crack the top-10 list.
Half of us (49 percent) say church attendance is "somewhat" or "very" important, but half (51 percent) say it is "not too" or "not at all" important. The younger we are, the worse the numbers get. Only two in 10 adults under the age of 30 believe church is important; more than a third take an anti-church stance.
Furthermore, the nature of church-going is changing. "Regular" attenders used to go to church three or more weekends every month. Now those who show up every four to six weeks consider themselves regular churchgoers. While 43 percent of those who attend church say they go "to be closer to God," 40 percent of those who don't attend say, "I find God elsewhere" and 35 percent claim that "church is not relevant to me personally."

Lol...those corporate mega fundamentalist churches are losing people big time...must be the 4,392 times they pass the bowls for money. Because of a more Christ like feeling with the new Pope, I believe attendance in Catholic Churches is on the rise.

Thanks for agreeing with GOD.

I believe we are living in the days of the Great Apostasy. Whether we are in the early stages or nearing the end will be known only in hindsight. But that we are in the throes of the greatest "falling away" the church has ever experienced is clear.

Jesus informed His disciples that the kingdom of heaven (His presence on earth through the church) would be infiltrated by the enemies of God (see Matt. 13:24-30,36-43). He prophesied that while everyone was sleeping, an enemy (the devil) would come and sow weeds among the wheat.

The wheat (that is, believers) and weeds (sons of the evil one) would grow together in the world. At the end of the age, Jesus will send angels to collect the weeds for burning and to harvest the wheat. He puts it this way: "The Son of Man will send out His angels and they will weed out of His kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil" (Matt. 13:41, NIV).

Jesus warned of a time when "many will turn away from the faith" and "many false prophets will appear and deceive many people" (Matt. 24:10-11). We have seen this prophecy repeatedly fulfilled throughout history, and yet what we see happening today in the church has not been seen since the days of the Borgia and Medici popes.

Mega churches are money generating theaters run by crooks living a lavish lifestyle tax free. The RCC is no different, but Pope Francis is trying to change that by having the Vatican Bank investigated. He already fired 5 cardinal who were bank overseers. We'll see what comes of it and if the money finally goes to the poor. Pope John Paul I tried having the Vatican Bank investigated after being pope for a month, but mysteriously died September 28, 1978. It is still believed mafia connected cardinals were involved in his death due to the mafia having connections with the Vatican Bank. Mario Puzo used that incident when writing "The Godfather III".

Let me see if I understand this. Agreeing with your hare-brained end time notions is the same as agreeing with God. Curious.

At my church if you don't show up fifteen minutes early you have to park in the vacant lot across the street and if you don't show up five minutes early you have to sit outside. How's the parking and seating situation at your church?

I don't believe the "End of Times" guano. I do have to say, that packed RC churches and sparse ones all depend on demographics. Quite a few Catholic churches closed where I live, but the ones that remained open increased in parishioners numbers due to transfers from the ones that closed.

No mention of 'End Times' here.

Rather full as I park way out at the end of the parking lot. Thanks for asking.

LMAO!!!

But you are surely one of them......gonna meet your ghost pal floating on a cloud and show all of us. I'll bet you can't even get an audience with the local mayor but you think the creator of the universe has covered your back.

News for you......I wouldn't want to spend eternity in a gated community behind pearly gates anyway. When I think of floating around on gossamer wings and singing hymns eternally it bores the shit out of me. I'd rather be in hell. At least I could get reacquainted with a lot of my old pals.

Nothing new here...there have been MANY who have believed that. Even discounting the verse where God says NO one will know the day.

But MOST Americans don't believe this. MOST Americans can worship and understand that only GOD knows when the end will come, as you guys say, and they focus on the ways Christ tells them to behave so they get into heaven. But not you End-Timers....

I know...but most organizations are corrupt at the top. The problem with the Christian Reconstructionists Dominionists, is they are corrupt all throughout the organization and justify child rape into their religion, stealing from the poor to give to rich (the leaders) and taking tax money while the poor go hungry and homeless.

Many people wonder about the death of John Paul 1....

How are you? I think the trolls are leaving...hooray!!!!

Yeah....nearly a billion, mostly children. Every day there are about 12,000 children in the world who starve to death. The churches keep on sporting their steeples, stained glass, carpeting, oak and mahagony pews, expensive sound systems and musical instruments, youth retreats, building expansion, church maintenance, Missionary programs etc., The Poor Be Damned!!

Doing good. How are you, Cookie?

Yeah, I noticed less trolls..........Woohoo!

Isn't it interesting that most organizations existing on donations, besides religion, have or had big time corruption going on?!?! I was shocked when the Red Cross, Komen Foundation, a Veterans Foundation, etc.......... hit the news due to CEO's and other top tier management who were embezzling the money and or giving themselves outrageous raises. Pretty damn sad how money for the poor and destitute are stolen by the already well off.

It's the values of the political religion and the right wingers....they have created an immoral culture that says anything goes so long as you get the money.

Since the born gains arrived, our nation has lost it's moral code.
