Why does the Bible sanction slavery?

Is that not in direct violation of our own beliefs as
Americans. That all men are created equal and by their creator endowed certain inalienable rights among those life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Is this not a new religion opposed to xtianity.

Slave owners wrote the constitution.

Most of my family have been what you could only consider slaves. Unwilling, poorly treated, improperly compensated.

It's alive and well almost everywhere.

..... Because the books of the bible were written when slavery was not yet a bad policy/word. Many things have changed since they were written and their contents do not necessarily apply in 2012, nor beyond.
