Yesterday's ESL class started with the 'Our Father', then we sang 'La Guadalupana' en Espanól since Thursday will be the Feast of Nuestra Señora de Quadalupe and then 'Come Holy Spirit'. The bulk of the class was spent reading a few paragraphs from Hawthorne's 'The Scarlet Letter'. It didn't take long to realize this was far beyond my students' level but nevertheless we finished the page; two columns, English on the left and Spanish on the right; describing Hester Prynne's exit from jail sporting a fabulously embroidered scarlet letter 'A' and a baby. I asked them what they would like to do today and they want to continue with Hawthorne so that's what we will do.

In looking for a suitable few paragraphs for today's class a realized that the language in this tome is absolutely magnificent and selected a highly symbolic section from the introduction which, it turns out, is essential to understanding the book.

We finished with 'Hail, Holy Queen' since yesterday was the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Salvation is ONLY through Jesus Christ!

John 14:6- Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12- Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

I suppose a person could be a Christian and never bother to read and study the Bible, but they'd be living in a worthless defeated state of backsliddeness.

Every REAL Christian I ever met hungers and craves for God's Holy Word, especially new Christians who just got saved. Christians who don't read and study their Bibles DAILY are extremely BACKSLIDDEN at best, but maybe they were never TRULY saved to begin with.

The Holy Bible aka the Word of God is the only thing that a REAL Christian ever TRULY needs. It's food for our very soul!

The man-made traditions that the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches teach come from man and NOT God! But Jesus warned us about that in the Holy Writ.

Matthew 15:9- But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Mark 7:13- Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Friends, can I share a few helpful Bible verses with you all? These scriptures come from the epistle to the Romans which, along with the gospel of John, is an excellent place to start reading the Holy Bible for yourselves! Start with John, jump to Romans, then start reading the ENTIRE Word of Almighty God.

Anyway, let's get quoting!
==========
Romans 3:10- As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
----------
Romans 3:23- For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
----------
Romans 6:23- For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
----------
Romans 5:8- But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
----------
Romans 10:13- For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
----------
Romans 10:9-10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
----------
..........
The result of REAL salvation:
Romans 5:1- Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
==========
==========
For my Spanish friends out there:

Romanos 3:10- Como está escrito: No hay justo, ni aun uno.
----------
Romanos 3:23- por cuanto todos pecaron, y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios;
----------

Maybe the Bible isn't necessary at all. Libraries are full of books addressing the problem of virtue head on, a topic the Bible is sadly deficient in addressing. It's unlikely God will send virtuous people to eternal torture simply for not agreeing with a passel of illiterate clods who make the nonsensical claim they've got everything figured out.

The Bible is truth. And truth is reality...the way God sees it. Reading the Bible is allowing God to speak with his people.

And yet, you waste your time going to Mass. Why bother being a member of Catholicism?

"The Bible was not handed to mankind by God, nor was it dictated to human stenographers by God. It has nothing to do with God. In actuality, the Bible was VOTED to be the word of God by a group of men during the 4th century.

According to Professor John Crossan of Biblical Studies at DePaul University the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (274-337 CE),(a bust of Constantine is pictured below) who was the first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity, needed a single canon to be agreed upon by the Christian leaders to help him unify the remains of the Roman Empire. Until this time the various Christian leaders could not decide which books would be considered "holy" and thus "the word of God" and which ones would be excluded and not considered the word of God."

Which Bible is the real Bible? Different religious groups use different Bibles. The Hebrew Bible, or Tanakh, contains twenty-four books. Christian Bibles range from the 66 books of the Protestant canon to the 73 books of the Catholic canon to the 81 books of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church canon.

Watchman's citation is consistent with reality.

Attempting to insult me just weakens your position.

"An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:

Person A makes claim X.
Person B makes an attack on person A.
Therefore A's claim is false."

Come upon me? Do you mean in a literal sense, as in bodily fluids? If so I will ensure I have an umbrella to hand at all times. As for them dwelling with me, they will have to take the settee. The bed belongs to my dog, I sleep on it with his approval. Actually the settee also belongs to the dog so your evil spirit chums will just have to stand.

weakens my position? that's rich.

Here's a lesson, the Word of GOD was written well before the 4th century. It was just "assembled" then.

So yes, my assertion remains the same.

Yes, making personal attacks weakens your position. As for the bible, it's just a collection of books taken from a larger collection of books. The decision on which books to include / exclude was the result of a vote which was underpinned by a bribe. All Constantine wanted was for ANY agreement to be reached. It was all about increasing his power.

Assembled from what? The seventy-two books of the King James Bible or from hundreds if not thousands of Christian documents circulating at the time?

can anyone name any other book besides the Bible, whereby thousands have been saved and come to know Jesus and God?
and have a transformed life to show for it?

btw thousands still fill the pews on Sunday mornings to hear men preach from the Bible.
satan has tried tactic after tactic to use people to stamp the Bible out, but his tactics have failed.:)
