So "Preacherman01" started a topic for atheists & others to ask a biblical question... it got derailed.

The premise was to ask a question to a christian and get an answer. Biblical based questions and answers only.

However this got derailed the moment a question was asked and was immediately met with calling names and personal attacks.

So, lets try this again and instead... ask an atheist.

This is in no way meant to be offensive or personal. It is just a way to discover a world view that you may have not thought of before.

Lets keep it civil shall we? No name calling or personal insults.

Views such as poverty, government, separation of church and state, prayer in schools, morals and ethics etc. Biblical questions and comments are more then welcome however again, let us be civil.

Also, this by no means states that I speak for all atheists. However, all are able to post and any differences of opinion they may have.

Again, no name calling or personal attacks. There are plenty of threads with this nonsense and I think we can be more civil.

A little background on me.

1) I am an atheist.
2) I have read the bible 2 times and working on my third.
3) I am 37 Years old
4) I work in Information Technology at a rubber production plant.
5) I was raised pentecostal but have studied various religions around the world before proclaiming my atheism.
6) I love science and love to teach and learn more.
7) I am a humanist in my cause, I love people and love to help others.
8) I feel that driving the importance of education is the single most important thing we can do to curve poverty rates.

So there you go.

Why are you a atheist?
There are many reasons.

First I should say I am very logical, I do not believe things that are unfounded or unproven. However, that is more or less where I am now.

What got the ball rolling?

1) I would say it is what I would call "questionable" things that the bible says occurred at the command of god.

2) I don't know how logically, people say they have free will however also state that god knows everything including the future. This is a contradiction. If everything happens according to his will, there is no such thing as free will.

3) After studying different cultures and seeing that religion is almost always synonymous with where people are born.

More things about the bible that made me start to question is things like talking bushes, snakes and donkeys.

4) The fact the the bible clearly states that the Earth was created before the Sun and stars when we know that is simply not the case.
We can look in a telescope and see stars being born and planets forming out of the dust clouds surrounding them.

The sun is a million times the size of the Earth and yet it is not even close to some of the biggest stars.

Also it states that vegetation was also created prior to the Sun.

That is a short version.

Why are you an atheist, spending your time and money posting everyday on a Christin internet forum?
What do you hope to gain?
This is 3 questions, I hope I am reading that right. "Why are you an atheist" has already been answered.

1) I am always around a computer because of my job so it is hardly an extra effort, no different than someone spending long amounts of time on Facebook or YouTube.

2) It does not cost money for me to post on here...

3) I gain knowledge about other peoples point of view and a perspective of different world vies that is shared by many. I also hope to gain and spread knowledge.

Cool. I am glad you did this, 10uhsee. It helps fill in the blanks on your posts.

You have really covered all your reasons well. And , as predicted from your introduction, answered questions from Prophet quite logically.

Not really. All he did was side step and
dodge the prophet's questions.

Do you think that all of us are so stupid, as to not know
why you are here just about everyday, posting on this forum?

Let me say, if you believe I have not answered something you can point out what it was.

I will try to answer to the best of my ability.

I have looked over the posts and discovered that his posts have disappeared. However, I did not notice any "side stepping". Please be specific on what it was and I will try to clarify.

Prove that God does not exist.

Funny...how long have you been here posting? I think we are all here posting on a forum to get into a discussion. Unless you're a troll like SunDog and Laci, and then you're just here to troll.

How? By saying he though that we all could say that? How is that dodging it? Do you need a certain response from a poster before you consider the person answered it?

Let me ask you this......

What is your purpose for posting on here?

I don't think you are stupid, I was once a christian myself. I now have a different view of the matter.

As far as why I am here, I like the topic. Religion is taboo to some people, to me it is not. It is embedded in our culture. Also, living in the south (the bible belt) it is fascinating to me to see all the different opinions of what "Christianity" means to different people.

I also like to weigh in on heated debates. Such as separation of church and state. I would also ad that it would be a very boring forum if everyone agreed on everything.

Fair enough.

I suppose I could do other things but I enjoy the topic. I can do it while at work, on my phone or while watching a movie. It does not take long to tab over and submit a reply.

But I would also say that my previous comment is still relevant as I believe we could all be out walking, or planting a garden etc... in the end it is what I choose to do.
