There seems to be a lot of production money being put into this.. not to mention Roma Downey and Mark Burnett producing. They've been posting some pretty cool behind the scenes content on their community website along with some good Christian discussion.. http://community.bibleseries.tv

I'm not sure how I feel about it though. Do you guys think that the Bible Series will stay in line with the Bible and not be too "Hollywoody"?

how many of these are they planning on making? i remember seeing the Jesus of nazareth series when i was younger.. this, the passion of the Christ.. i gotta say i have mixed feelings about making all of these money off of religion. i mean i guess if it leads people to God then it's a good thing, but still.. you know what I'm saying?

The TV Mini series is indorsed by Rick Warren, who, we are not impressed with at all. Mark Burnett has based the series on the NIV and NRSV, which we think is of the Devil, and, both Burnett and his wife, Roma Downey have spoken at, and have been honored at Pepperdine University (Church of Christ) which doesn't say a lot about them spiritually. This mini series had three "Religion Consultants" that gave advice to the film crew. 1. Joel Osteen 2. Rick Warren 3. T. D. Jakes, all three multi millionaires and in love with this world.

What difference does it make, it's all totally useless as a spiritual guide anyway.

I figure they figure is Mel Gibson can make a ton of money setting the Bible to music so can they.

You may find this (four hour) PBS special a bit more informative:

Genesis 4:7
Sin crouches at your door and you are its prey but you can rise above it.

That's not useless as a spiritual guide.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the Bible, not the Bible set to music. Yeah, that probably is useless as a spiritual guide.

God bless you.

How do you figure they'll portray Rehab, the Harlot of Jericho? Blessed Virgin Mary? Tammy Faye? Stale as a street working crack adict at dawn?

Is it safe to assume most everybody will be white?

Uh, actually it IS useless, spiritual wise.

Spiritual:
1. Of, relating to, consisting of, or having the nature of spirit; not tangible or material. See Synonyms at immaterial.
2. Of, concerned with, or affecting the soul.
3. Of, from, or relating to God; deific.
4. Relating to or having the nature of spirits or a spirit; supernatural

Now I do not see even one thing truly SPIRITUAL in that silly verse about "Sin crouches at your door". So what's it doing there, taking a crap?

But if YOU want to step up to the plate and try the open challenge I periodically post to the Christians, go right ahead. Here it is:

So since your entire religion is based upon saving your soul for your evil “god”, his judgment, entering Heaven, and the afterlife in Heaven. Go look in your “magic book” that you CLAIM has ALL the answers, and find some CLEAR DESCRIPTIONS that DETAIL:

1. What your soul is, it’s energies/abilities, and how to use them.

2. What the SPIRITUAL nature of God, what your mythology calls "god" the FATHER. NOT your silly evil dead guy.

3. What is God's laws for governing his universe.

4. The Judgment process, what's involved, what are the requirements to pass, etc.

5. What Heaven is like, it's order, what work is done there for God's plan for >>ALL<< souls?

6. What part will you play in God's plan for >>ALL<< souls if you EVER spiritually evolve enough to get into Heaven?

Now just try to find any verses that would give someone a CLEAR DETAILED DESCRIPTION and good understanding of any of the above items/questions. And NOT just MENTIONING words like soul, God, heaven, etc. Nor any of that deceitful stuff like claiming a verse means something other than what it says.

what do you define as a spiritual guide? even though these episodes are fast moving and heavy on special effects - if it inspires people to follow the teachings of the bible more closely, how is that not serving as a spiritual guide?

if it helps people find faith, i don't see a problem.

quick viewing shows that the actors do not look like they come from the actual geographic locations of the Bible stories. Once again...a nice Western and American view of the Bible world. So stupid.

When will Western Xtians get over the fact that Jesus was not Anglo, that Moses was not Anglo, that Mary was not Anglo, that none of the characters in the Bible world were Anglo! The racism never ends.

Look at the trailer, Moses and Noah were British? WTF?

And its obvious that the bad guys will be mostly dark skinned, dark eyed, etc...

Another load of Western Xtian propaganda cr/p!

But I like the look of young Mary, if she looked like that I can see why she got knocked up and had to make up a lie. I'd hit that...

Really? Care to count the number of non-whites compared to white? And by white I mean Anglo, European white.

Not really a problem at first glance.

Trouble is how much these reenactments twist the real stories as originally told, and that they also create their own theme, that is taken by the ignorant, and too lazy to investigate as doctrinal. Too much of Xtian beliefs is already more pop-cultural influenced than it is scriptural and/or theological-doctrinally correct. Why muddy the waters even more?

From what I read of what Jesus is alleged to have said, I'm not so sure he'd be thrilled by all the over-the-top, video game like quality of the story telling. He told things simply for a reason - and it wasnt to WOW! people into thinking he was cool.

Does Jesus really need CGI, and big over the top productions? I thought his message was enough?

Exactly! They seem to have molded Jesus into what they want him to be and not what he actually was. Jesus also didn't discriminate and he hung with the very type of people fundies reject, discriminate, trash and stick their noses up at.
