I take it that you are aware that Isaiah expressly refers to Babylonian king and that the Jewish Encyclopedia states that the Lucifer myth was transferred to Satan already in the pre-Christian century.
That's right. Man has always preferred to attribute "evil" to influences outside themselves. In this case, Man named the one to blame "Satan".

Just wondered if anyone has ever considered that our penal system can, in a way, be compared to religion. You are guilty and are doing 'penance' in a way, supposedly being 'rehabilitated'; yet, IMO, with the structure of society the way it is, not many ask WHY did these people commit these crimes; what brought them to this point; what is it about our society; as much as the part of 'guilty','pay for your crime by doing time'......

And, I firmly believe many who end up in jail or prison were raised as Christians and would profess to believing in Christ and being a Christian. Can't just slip in and say they 'fell away' from their faith and 'went criminal'...more to this than that somehow.....

So, my question is, what is wrong with our society to cause so many to commit crimes?

Just curious as to any thoughts....

Hi Nettie, this is a heck of a question needing days upon days for answering.
It is true that most societies are not concerned with the cause but with the symptoms. Authorities trying to find the cause of criminality will eventually have to admit some failure on their part, justifiable or not, so they won't bother.
Unfortunately it has been proven dramatically that penance is not rehabilitation. Most people doing penance in jail get out worse than when they entered. Jails are the universities for criminality.

You are absolutely right.
Lack of evidence is not proof of non-existence.

It's too long an answer so here are the salient points. We have so many laws they cannot be counted

We have too many police with too few scruples who disregard the constitution (which was written to handicap the state and level the playing field)

Prosecutors are the most corrupt people in any walk of life, they are despicable.

The nonsense that you hear about activist judges is just that nonsense. Ttoday's system is to Judges as wal-greens is to pharmacists.

The judge is forced by legislators who pass knee jerk laws in response to getting votes with sentences 8 times longer then the rest of the world and trumped up charges so that a kid gets 18 felony counts for his sex life, some of them carrying life sentences all this because his girlfriend was 13 and he was 16. Since that isn't much of a crime they try him as an adult thus turn a minor teen into an adult pedophile (see this thread http://www.topix.com/city/kennett-mo/2009/03/... )

If dad has a pot plant in the same room as his hunting rifle it's a mandatory 15 year no parole sentence and the judge cannot make exceptions. An entire family destroyed over a potted plant.

The juries are lied to, mislead, not informed about jury nullifacation and also forced to vote guilty like it or not, then the judge is forced to follow the guidelines like it or not.

When the california prison union turns out to be the major lobby group that got the three-strike law enacted your county is way past corrupt.

Our court system is the most corrupt in the modern world. we were the last ones to stop executing children just 10 years ago, we are the only country on earth who tries children as adults.

Our system of prisons is considered the most barbaric in the modern world and has earned us a spot on every human rights watch list on earth. Countries have almost stopped extradition people to the united states because torture is so widespread in US prisons.

The Army hired a bunch of prison gaurds for duty in Iraq and these hardened military people were so shocked and disgusted by the barbaric methods they used they forced an investigation of the entire US system.

The finding are unbelievable. People die daily in US prisons for lack of simple anti biotics. Guards routinely allow rapists into cells, all look away just before stabbings. That's just a glimpse of whats to come.

The courts too have ran over the constitution to the point it's impossible to get a trial. 95% of all cases are plea barganed, you can take the 1 year incarceration they offer or go to trial which makes them furious and they will seek 25 years.

In short our country is more corrupt then Mexico, just in different ways

a quark is not claiming to be god,and you don't have to die to find out if they exist.look lady Man did not come from a handful of dust through some mythological being. Man evolved from other species like every other living thing has for hundreds of millions of years. here is a letter, signed by more than 10,000 clergy members An Open Letter Concerning Religion and Science: "...We the undersigned, Christian clergy from many different traditions, believe that the timeless truths of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist. We believe that the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth, one that has stood up to rigorous scrutiny and upon which much of human knowledge and achievement rests. To reject this truth or to treat it as “one theory among others” is to deliberately embrace scientific ignorance and transmit such ignorance to our children.

Why do you think your view is better then theirs? Could it be oh I don't know Faith? You are as absurd as they are, you don't have a clue if anything you said is true. You just repeat what you've read just like they do.
The wise man realizes there are too many mysteries to even hazard a guess, let alone strut around like you've reached a plane equal to the gods and everyone else is an idiot. I find more honesty because they acknowledge their faith while you try and cloak yours with very primitive science.

Man cant even reach his nearest planet. Can't stop war or cure disease and yet you think man is so brilliant he's already figured out the universe.

Russel's teapot may not exist but there can still be undiscoverable items. Planets, coments, galaxies etc. Until recently there was no indication that there was water on Mars. Now it is almost a fact.

let me lighten up your day again:

"My word!! LOL!!! fables, supertitious stories, fairy tales
Men! its amazing how much of this exist in all ancients religions!
You guys - on one hand u say that Gods kingdom is in u and yet u get fooled by fairy tales!!
The main message of the prophets is lost!! "

Same applies to islam, yeah, the one that made themselves look like IDIOTS chasing after Salman Rushdie when he pointed out the cockup by mohammad.!!

The funniest thing in all this was that this fatwa was issued by the peado khomeni who wrote "THE LITTLE GREEN BOOK"

LOL!

True, you are correct that there is no evidence for God up to now. However my comment that lack of evidence does not mean non-existence, applies to everything and may include God in a completely different form from we have been taught or even super-intelligent alliens, resembling God.

I'll tell you what I have NEVER felt anything supernatural, you know its sad to see grown people believing this bull sh i t A faith that requires you to close your mind in order to believe is not much of a faith at all. There is no supreme being in heaven who reached down to create life on Earth or human beings. Nor is that being answering prayers. There is no soul. There is no everlasting life.how delusional and completely self-centered can you be?

Just so we understand each other, I can be haughty and arrogant too. I could tell you I'll work with you a little bit, though you're at least a baker's dozen lifetimes behind me.
I think even you might have evidence of God if he were claiming to be him. But you probably were referring to people who insist on God and this frustrates you. Whatever, except for the excerpted letter(which I completely agree with), reading your response was like was like trying to see the baseball coming at me with the sun in my eyes. It was about the most unreasoned irrelevant gobbledy-goop I've seen in Topix.
If you wish, please put on your best smarty-pants and REREAD my post with your most objective mind.

His point was not to prove God. His comment was that because there is no scientific evidence, or awareness of something, there can be no validation or invalidation of it's existence.

(You have no idea the amount of evidence of God's existence there is in just about every one of my posts.)
I had no idea you scientific types were so emotionally unstable.
