To understand what a FUNDAMENTALIST is, you first have to understand what FUNDAMENTALS actually is.

Fundamentals;

down to bedrock Down to basics or fundamentals; down to the essentials. Bedrock is literally a hard, solid layer of rock underlying the upper strata of soil or other rock. Thus, by extension, it is any foundation or basis. Used literally as early as 1850 in Nelson Kingsley’s Diary, the phrase appeared in its figurative sense by 1869 in Our New West by Samuel Bowles.

get down to brass tacks To get down to business; to get down to the essential or fundamental issues. Although the precise origin is unknown, this expression is said to have been originally a nautical phrase referring to the brass nails exposed during the cleaning of the hulls on early sailing ships. Brass was used to resist the corrosion of sea water in fastening metal sheathing to the hull. The phrase appeared as early as 1897 in Liars by H. A. Jones.

meat-and-potatoes Basic, fundamental, essential, main. Meat and potatoes have long been the basic ingredients of a traditional hearty meal.

It’s the meat-and-potatoes appeal—the old pull at the heartstrings—that’ll put us over at the box office.(S. J. Perelman, Listen to the Mocking Bird, 1949)

nitty-gritty The heart of a matter. This American slang term first appeared in 1963 as part of the Black militant slogan get down to the nitty-gritty.

The Negroes present would know perfectly well that the nitty-gritty of a situation is the essentials of it.(Time, August, 1963)

The phrase is conjectured to be an oblique reference to the small hard-to-remove nits or lice that are often found attached to the hair and scalp of poor ghetto-dwellers because of unclean living conditions.

nuts and bolts Basics, brass tacks, the nitty-gritty, the heart of the matter. Since literal nuts and bolts are essential parts of virtually any machine, it is only logical that figuratively they symbolize the essence or core of something, the practical basics. This expression, apparently of fairly recent coinage, dates from at least 1960.

So, a fundamentalist gets down to the basics. What is the basics of Scripture?

That Jesus Christ is God; that He is the ONLY Way and means to salvation. There IS no other Path or Way to salvation other than Jesus Chriat.

Catholicism belittles Christ and throws all sorts of obstacles in ones way so to try to cover the Truth and replace it with the lie od the papacy and Mariology, or idolatry.

Exactly why I'm a non-denominational Christian and not a Catholic. I question the act of praying to the virgin Mary, calling someone else father and confessing my sins to him, etc. It seems wrong to me so I steer clear of it.

"Any hope that America would finally grow up vanished with the rise of fundamentalist Christianity. Fundamentalism, with its born-again regression, its pink-and-gold concept of heaven, its literal-mindedness, its rambunctious good cheer ... its anti-intellectualism ... its puerile hymns ... and its faith-healing ... are made to order for King Kid America."

fun·da·men·tal·ism [fuhn-duh-men-tl-iz-uh&#82 01;m] Show IPA
noun
1.
a movement in American Protestantism that arose in the early part of the 20th century in reaction to modernism and that stresses the infallibility of the Bible not only in matters of faith and morals but also as a literal historical record, holding as essential to Christian faith belief in such doctrines as the creation of the world, the virgin birth, physical resurrection, atonement by the sacrificial death of Christ, and the Second Coming.

How have I displayed ignorance of Catholicism? By researching it's doctrines to find that I disagree with them and that I do not believe they hold true to Christ's teachings? How is educating myself to come to this conclusion a demonstration of ignorance when ignorance is a lack of understanding?

How am I biggoted, because I do not involve myself in Catholic functions or affairs or functions? I have only stated that I question their practices and that is why I am not Catholic. I have not expressed any specific disdain or malice toward another person or group simply for being different than myself.

It seems if anything your post lashed out at me without fully comprehending who I am or what my values are. You passed judgement on me without knowing me, that is prejudice which is hatred based in ignorance.

Here is a perfect example of catholic idiocy. He wants one to believe he is "saved" but doesn't even know what it means and doesn't care. He is an embarrasment to his own "faith."

Getting down to fundamentals is true Biblical Christianity. This buffoon doesn't even believe the bible.

The Bible IS the true Word of God. God DID create the universe and all there is in it, including your very soul/spirit. You are beholden to Him.

But you overlook that ALL Christinsanity is based upon the book of lies. So it doesn't matter what lies from the book of lies you believe in, as ALL Christinsanity is based upon lies.

A fundamentalist who holds to a certain theological view much like a Calvinist, free willer, premillennialism, etc

Right or wrong that viewpoint guides their interception of scripture
