What are you refering to as being a "selfish attitude"?
It is all that concern and stress about being accepted by a God for the purpose of coming to and live forever in a fantastic place like Heaven, having many children from our own genes to occupy the whole world at the cost of other creations.
Because of feeling guilt as punishment for breaking the law of God, but this only for the purpose of restoring the relationship to this God.
Where is the feeling of unity and solidarity with all creation?

It was some of you non-beleivers that made me this way pal! As I have told you years ago, I will treat you as you treat me plain and simple. You want respect I will give it, but I expect the same in return. Furthermore I have not said a word about you going to hell, that is between you and the Lord. If you don't feel life is pointless, that is your beleif, and YES I do believe life has a point, and a meaning. Get off your soapbox and relax!
No, you made yourself that way, no one can make you what you don't want to be, and BTW, I'm not your pal. As for you expecting respect, as long as you have the arrogance to tell others that their lives are pointless because they don't believe as you do, then you will receive zero respect from me.

Yes, I'm aware the location shown by Topix does not alwaye represent a poster's actual location. This is because Topix gets its information from a poster's IP address. People can find out what their IP address is here.
http://whatismyipaddress.com/
An IP address only provides the connection point to the internet for the person it belongs to, not their actual home address. Only someone's ISP can link their IP address with their actual location and home address.
<quoted text>
Actually I'm retired and so far my day has been grand. I live an the east coast of England and the weather is warm and sunny. I took the dog out for a walk this morning then went out cycling for a couple of hours. Once I've had some tea I will be taking the dog out again. Then it's feet up for some TV / Xbox 360 / music / reading / Topix / etc. It's really tough not having to go to work each day but I struggle through somehow :-}
Roland, I'm not the one who needs addresses explained to me. But that was sweet of you to go to all that effort.

I bet your dog is cute. I know you're busy juggling all that TV, reading, etc, in your fine and fullfilling retirement, but if you catch a spare minute in there somewhere, let me know what kind of dog you have, so I can get a different breed that doesn't poop so much.

I've never met a happy atheist. The few I've known always seem to have a sticker in their saddle, like they're ticked off at the world in general.
If you haven't met a happy atheist Ruby, you obviously need to get out more! Maybe you can make a start if I tell you that I am happy, very happy and I have plenty to be happy about. Wonderful wife and children and grandchildren and great friends. Lots of love there, so who wouldn't be happy with that! Definitely not ticked off at the world in general. I have been to just about every country in Europe, been to the far east, been to India, to North Africa and still travel abroad two or three times a year. I have met some fascinating people from different cultures and religions. No, not ticked off at the world in general, I love its diversity and its sights, but I do get ticked off at people who tell me that my life is pointless because I don't believe in their god. Maybe you would be happier if you realized that the world is not all about you and what you believe, but that we share this planet with others, many of whom just happen to think differently to ourselves.

Are you trying to convince yourself? You wrote:“ I am happy, very happy”(one happy says it all – two makes others wonder).
I find it interesting that you do so much traveling, yet you find so much time to post here, lol. Of course you may also wonder how I find the time to post here, but that's because I enjoy my home and activities such as gardening, movies, dinners with friends, and those sorts of things, and playing on the internet to pass time. I don't want exotic trips abroad, nor do I require that to find happiness in my life. There is nothing wrong with your traveling, if you enjoy it, but many of us wouldn't be interested.
When my husband was alive, we traveled in the states. It was he who enjoyed it the most. It wasn't particularly enjoyable to me staying in hotels and packing. It was always a relief to get back home. I loved that man, and would have gone anywhere with him if he wanted to go – but I have no desire to travel these days. My children are great, and we visit often.
If people have told you your life is pointless, maybe it would be nice if you registered your complaint about that with the people who said it to you rather than implying I said it, if that's what you were doing. If you want to make a general comment against those people, a good way to do that is by starting a new post rather than including it in your reply to mine, since I don't recall saying your life was pointless. Most lives have some point to them, if nothing else but to stimulate the economy by the money they spend and the taxes they pay during their time on the planet.
So, you have shown your annoyance --- your little burr in your saddle.

Gosh, I am going to pat myself on the back that you felt I said so much you needed to break it all down for me, or the forum, or whoever. I wouldn't bother, but of course you go the extra mile, and I certainly thank you so much, lol.

But anywho or anyhow - whatever - Hey, it's okay, Roland - I don't expect you to agree. Forums are for the expression of many viewpoints. I'm sure we would probably disagree on many things.

Looks like you need to brush up on your reading skills, because I don't have a dog. It was your dog that you had to walk twice this morning, so I figured he must be pooping a lot. Go ahead and change his diet – it's okay, and change yours too while you're at it because sour grapes don't become you. Be sweet in your old age.

And that is exactly why I have 0 respect for you, not I never told anyone that their life is pointless, it is a figure of your imagination that I have said anyone's life is pointless. WHat I did say if "IF" we die and that is it, then wouldn't life be pointless? That is what I said. And BTW, YES People like yourself DID make me the way I am!

There we are again; this personal matter thinking is hard to escape from!
It is not about me; it is about us, all of us and the solidarity and cooperation!

After generation of religious influence on society and our cultural life we are still at the very starting point; me and my group.
It is always the same all over; my religion, my property, my political group, my money always in competition with those who are outside my sphere of interest.

We have been and are fighting wars over silly matters like pride and honour, guilt and shame, the whole issue of ww1 and 2 came from simpleminded thinking like that.
We all know that it is the wrong way, but we are paralysed when it comes to admitting that it is a failure and just stop fighting, just for that simple reason.

Whatever the religious people are claiming; they have failed in every way to solve the most dominant of all problems among people.
