There are plenty of purebreds and crossbred dogs in the city pound aka kill shelters. At least there are in NY. Idk if you can see this or not,you may have to like this page on FB but they list all the dogs who are almost out of time, every damn day,and most of them are purebreds and crossbreeds and way too many of the poor pit bulls. The next dog I get will be a pit bull from a kill shelter but that is a long way off into the future.<quoted text>If you are seeking just a dog, then the county or city pound ids the only place. But when you seek a specific breed, then those rescue groups are way beyond exspensive and it would be cheaper to buy from a breeder. The specific breed rescues harm themselves in the long run. Plus the interigation you need to go through in their adoption process.
We got our Chow from a breed specific shelter, a small one. He only cost 350 and he came with many perks. You just have to look around and see what your area has to offer. The problem with buying from breeders is that it encourages them to breed more dogs and most of their dogs eventually end up in a kill shelter once the novelty wears off the puppy becomes an adult. Only one out ten puppies end up finding a forever home. It's even worse for parrots because their life spans are so long.
To each their own but I will never ever buy any pet from a breeder or a pet store when so many are being killed in so called shelters. I'm just not that desperate and I can and did bide my time until I found the dog I wanted in a shelter.
