Why do Southern Baptists hate homosexuals?

In the Constitution of the Southern Baptist Convention, Article III, it states that a church can only be a member if: It is in friendly cooperation with the Convention. Cooperation is defined as those churches that do not “act to affirm, approve, or endorse homosexual behavior.” There is no prohibition against churches that act to affirm or endorse slavery, pedophilia, adultery, murder or anything else, just homosexuality. In addition, the SBC has adopted over 40 resolutions condemning homosexuality. Every year a new resolution is presented condemning homosexuality. The strongest unified message of the SBC is that homosexuals must convert to heterosexuality or else God’s judgment will fall on America. Why is this same statement not made concerning adulterers? Our churches are filled with adulterers yet we never single them out, just homosexuals.
I am often told,“homosexuality is an abomination to God.” Yet, so is eating lobster (Leviticus 11). Why is it we quote Leviticus 20 to prove homosexuality is an abomination but forget that same passage also calls for their execution? Why do we not see that entire passage is addressed to the “children of Israel” and not to the Church? Why do focus so much on interjecting ourselves into the personal matters of others even to the point our church messengers are threatened with expulsion if they say anything in defense of homosexuals? One wonders if this all out war against homosexuals is nothing but a smokescreen to cover up something we wish to remain covered. What other reasons could there be to focus so much energy and attention to ensure no homosexual ever be allowed to participate in Southern Baptist life. Please do not tell me they “love the sinner but hate the sin.” Help this Southern Baptist pastor understand these things by replying to [email protected]

Hate is based on misunderstanding and self loathing on this homo subject.
Religious people that hate homosexuality are insecure in their beliefs.
Like Punisher said.... They are afraid they will be tempted to act out their fantasies.

What does "Southern" have to with it?

Ya know, funny you mention this because I was having a discussion about this very thing just the other day.

Why is it that white liberals consider disrespecting and stereotyping people as "offensive"--even when telling the truth--except when it comes todisrespecting and stereotyping people whom live in the south?

The most vile atheist liberal worships homosexuals, illegal aliens, us, etc., etc.....but they'll talk straight trash and use racial slurs when it comes to a southerner?

A liberal will puff up and get mad at someone for expecting an illegal alien to learn english or call someone a racist if they complain that they can't understand an illegal alien because of his/her thick accent..but will turn right around and pick on a southerner for speaking differently (with an accent).

I've never understood this. I mean, I understand the whole north vs south thing, but that was a long time ago.

Me, personally, I've lived in the south-east for a number of years and find it preferable to the north--and, might I add--the north is full of racists and bigots of all kinds too. Life's better in the south, imo, the people are nicer and, admittedly, I appreciate the culture and the slower pace that exists in some of the areas down here.

What 'Church' affirms or endorses slavery, pedophilia, adultery, murder or anything else?

It's not 'hate'...it's a disagreement in lifestyle where the SBC doesn't 'agree' with it...

And for the record, we don't hate the "sinner", we hate the "sin". There's a difference.

Hate the sin is nothing but an excuse to hate the person. There is no sin without a sinner, they are inseparable. This has to be one of the most ignorant sayings among Christians to justify their hatred of homosexuals. I am not saying you are ignorant, but I am saying you need to really think that through before saying it aloud.

Well, yes and no. Hating the sin and not the sinner is the more appropiate stance because its the behavior that makes us hate them.

It's the sinful behavior that causes the issue....behavior that can be changed.

The Holy Bible is clear on homosexuality. Calling SIN a SIN is not hate.

Genesis 19:1-11, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, 1 Kings 14:24, 1 Kings 15:12, 2 Kings 23:7, Judges 19:16-24, Romans 1:18-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ,1 Timothy 1:8-10, Jude 1:7
