QuinceaInera Has Lessons On Faith, Family, Sex

“There is not an open conversation going on about the value of waiting till marriage or the economic pitfalls of becoming a single mother.”

On the day she is to become a woman, Monica Reyes sits in front of the church for Mass. Her white dress -- sewn in her mother's Mexican hometown -- spills over her chair like an oversized lampshade.

The priest urges her to live as a daughter of God. Her parents give her a gold ring shaped like the number 15. Near the end of the service, Reyes lays a bouquet of roses before a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Then she steps through the worn, wooden doors of St. Joseph's, a Roman Catholic parish for generations of poor, Hispanic immigrants, and into a 20-seat white Hummer limo that rents for $150 an hour. Read more

First of all, let us correct some sloppy illiteracy. The word is QUINCEAÑERA. Members of the press really ought to know how to spell!

This celebration is OUT OF CONTROL. Hispanics often go into big debt to put on this silly show. And yes, instead of a youthful commitment to Jesus Christ and living a life modeled after the Blessed Virgin Mary, lamentably, it is instead a celebration of sexual promiscuity. Too many latino girls lose their virginity at the quinceañera party. It's the new "in thing". 80% of all unwed pregnancies occur among latinos in the State of California.

Whatever the Quinceañera was originally intended to be is now a low-life, trashy celebration of tacky excess. If you've ever been to one you'll see where the absolute worst in fashion excess puts on a terribly ridiculous show, coupled with cheap make-up, awful manners, crass language, and gratuitous sexual posturing among latino adolescents.

Whatever happened to the classy Mexican family of strict rules, the upholding of sexual boundaries, reverence for women, integrity and dignity of the young caballero, etc?

"yet it isn't a
sacrament, like
marriage"

.

Marriage ain't a "sacrament" either ! This all
part of Rome's traditions-of-men false religion.

God's Word knows nothing of this stuff. It's
thinly disguised paganism !

Your mentality explains why the divorce rate is so high!

One area we might agree (DR thinks), Crance, is that
unscriptural divorce is a sin.

Christians, however, are not at liberty to redo
God's doctrines to suit what we think might help
solve a problem.

Besides, last time your favorite rodent checked, the
divorce rate for Romanists was just as high as for
anybody else. So a lot of good elevating marriage to
the level of a "sacrament" has done !

That's an argument from a negative, Crance, which
Bro. Rat thinks someone as smart as you wouldn't
want to make upon reflection.

Moreover, if the protestant divorce rates without
sacramental marriage are about as high as Romanist
divorce rates with sacramental marriage, then
your argument posits a higher divorce for you guys
if Rome de-sacramentalized marriage.

Raticus is certain you ~don't~ want to make THAT
argument !

.

The Reformed Rodent thinks we both grieve over the
almost 50% divorce rate in America, Crance.

"I hate divorce,
says the Lord"
(Malachi 2:16a
NASB)

Bro. Rat don't know about you, Crance, but he's old
enough to remember when being divorced was viewed by
society as a shameful thing.

It's quite telling that those who follow God's plan for marriage and fertility by not using artificial contraception have a divorce rate of under 5%, according to the Couple to Couple League.

Contracepting Catholics, who follow what the world tells them, have a divorce rate at 51%, like the rest of Americans.
