In his first public comments since his surprise retirement announcement, Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday asked Catholics for support and prayers to support him "in these days which are not easy for me." The Pope as the faithful believe is chosen by God's hand. How then can Pope Benedict XVI answer the Lord's call with I'm old, I'm not sick, I'm not losing my mind. I'm just old. How fitting he selected the name Benedict, now it seems foretelling. He stood by Pope John Paul II, watching him answer the Lord's call with every bit of strength he could manage just to get through his day at an advanced age and of real sickness.
Those who support Pope Benedict XVI must be clueless. How can they understand this as okay: so he wants to retire. It's just NEVER happened before period. To say that it occurred 600 years ago in it self is untrue. 600 years ago two men claimed the title of Pope, one man dropped his claim. So to even suggest that the Pope has ever resigned is just untrue until now.
Pope Benedict XVI given reason for resigning just doesn't add up and frankly he isn't being honest at all. Yet the followers are right in line saying he has put the church before himself. That couldn't be further from the truth. He has placed his own concerns above the church. He isn't just a ceo but that's how he's acting. There is only one reason Pope Benedict XVI would feel the personal urge to remove himself from the papacy. It has nothing to do with the known scandals of the church. It can only be Pope Benedict XVI personal scandal, he covered up the sexual abuse of others we know. What we don't know? Is Pope Benedict XVI himself a sexual abuser? What better reason to resign.
