Exactly my point. The rididulous celibacy requirement is the problem. While it does affect both genders & all sexual orientations, it likely originated in the catholic church because they were almost all gay and knew it was against their fairytale to have an active gay sexual life.
Allowing priests to marry- regardless of their sexaul orientation- would go a long way to solving their molestation problem.
NO and shame on you!

Celibacy was passed because the Church saw PROPERTY being diverted to the children of priests, Bishops, Cardinals and Popes, with even illegitimate children benefiting. Frankly I'm shocked you'd promote such a stereotype like you did. You are usually much smarter than that.

I'm appalled so many on here posted such nonsense supporting such a horrible stereotype.

I know a lot of these men. They aren't gay. Far too many mistresses between them.
Agreed. And you missed your chance to remind him of the number of heterosexuals who are cross dressers and DEFINITELY straight.

Too bad your information is outdated.

Ratzinger and the every Pope since John XXIII have helped the Church evolve it's position from one of complete bigotry to one with some slight tolerance and compassion. Pope Benedict was the

Official doctrine now teaches that though we are gay we are part of God's creation and should be treated with compassion(major change there kiddo and it happened in my lifetime).

In 1981, Pope Benedict settled in Rome when he became Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, one of the most important dicasteries of the Roman Curia. During that time he oversaw the Church soften its' previous stance about homosexuality.

I don't like the guy but I do know he did help in this change.

Once he steps down it will be harder to claim diplomatic immunity form Prosecution that as Pope he now enjoys.

I agree with you on this and I bet he will claim illness and dementia so he can't be held accountable. The poop is going to hit the fan very soon. These guys never step down so this is directly in line with all the ills of a very dark and cruel organization.

Though I am highly flattered by your conspiracy theory I have to inform you it's a flawed theory.

Unlike you I post under one screen name. The initials of my given name. Always have, always will.

Hope your gills are starting to develop. Drowning in your own shit is a horrible way to die. I wouldn't wish that even on you.

I prefer you enjoy a long life and remain as miserable or even more so than you are now. You do so much to help advance my causes with the general public. Thanks again BTW.

These guys never step down so this is directly in line with all the ills of a very dark and cruel organization.[/QUOTE]Interesti ng you bring up those points. I just saw where during his Mexico visit he suffered a severe bump to his head. Pope Benedict himself said health was his reason for abdication.(They don't use that term BTW; my bad)

But they do step down. Granted it is unusual but it's not as uncommon as you may think.

List of papal resignations:
St Pontian 21; reigned from July 230 28 September 235 (Pope Pontian abdicated on 28 September 235 AD to prevent a power vacuum. This brought a schism of the Roman Church to an end)

St Marcellinus; reigned 30 June 296 1 April 304 (Abdicated or was deposed in 304 after complying with the Roman emperor's order to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods.)

Liberius; reigned 17 May 352 24 September 366 (Some historians have postulated that Liberius resigned in 365, so that they may make sense of the reign of Antipope Felix II.)

John XVIII; reigned January 1004 July 1009 (He retired to a monastery, where he died shortly afterwards.)

Benedict IX; reigned 10451046 (Sold the papacy to his godfather Gregory VI and resigned in 1045)

Gregory VI; reigned April/May 1045 20 December 1046 (Considering the fact that the arrangement he had entered into with Benedict was simony; Simony is the act of paying for sacraments and consequently for holy offices or for positions in the hierarchy of a church)

St Celestine V, O.S.B.; reigned 5 July 1294 13 December 1294 (Overwhelmed by the demands of the office, this hermetic pontiff stepped down after five months as pope in 1294. Pope Benedict XVI prayed at his tomb in the central Italian city of L'Aquila in 2009.)

Gregory XII; reigned 30 November 1406 4 July 1415 (Abdicated during the Council of Constance, which had been called by his opponent, the anti-pope John XXIII.)

which brings us to Benedict XVI; 19 April 2005 28 February 2013 (announced).(Resigned due to mental and physical infirmity)

I've never lived in the "gay ghetto", and every catholic priest I ever knew was gay, including every single one of the catholic chaplains I knew in the military.

I stand by my previous assertions. The celibacy requirement is a major contributing factor to the sexual abuse in the catholic church.

Ummmm, no it's not.

I've met many straight pastors of other faiths, but not a single straight catholic priest. If there are so many straight priests as you all claim, surely I'd have met at least one of them; especially during 20+ years in the military. In the military the medical field works closely with the chaplains office- that whole death & dying thing. Even before DADT the catholic chaplains didn't bother to pretend to be straight.

I stand by what I know to be true.

Then I must apologize to you for what I posted earlier. I'm sorry. And I agree with you the celibacy thing has probably caused more harm than good.

I'd agree only if it's VERY slow and painful, but I saw my Mom and husband go thru that so.....

I'd rather see him grabbed by one of those European Nations that want him as an accessory in promoting child rape.
