well in answering the question, "who do you think was right? The Pope or the Emperor?", I would have to say Pope Vigiliu.

My reasoning is that as recent historical evidence indicates, the early Christians did in fact accept reincarnation.

So Pope Vigiliu did the right thing in refusing to sign the papal decree and demonstrated great integrity in doing so.

So I think rather than hiding this noble man from public view, I say we should exalt him for doing the best that he could in trying to save the world from the madness that he knew would come!

Yes, I do believe that Pope Vigiliu is the right choice. But then, that is just my humble opinion.

I see the church went with Emperor Justinian.

The Roman Catholic Church, like many other patriarchal hierarchical churches practices what is called conditional love. It evolved as a means of political control over the centuries as humans learned that our need for LOVE can allow us to be controlled by those who claim withhold it.
If you analyze this false love, you find it is simply relative degrees of hate, there is no LOVE to be found at all.
This false form of love and it's various god(s) of conditional love is the foundation of what some call the Antichrist as it rejects the GOD of the Jewish Jesus:
1 John 4:8 (King James Version)
"8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."
To determine if any given religion worships the true GOD, a simple rule of thumb is:
LOVE does not burn people alive for disagreeing with other people who hold political power and claim to be divinely inspired.
LOVE does not fight wars to defend conflicting religious ideas.
LOVE does not persecute minority groups who's existence threatens the doctrines of the church.
What LOVE does do is to eternally reach out to include the unloving.
This is not done through any church but through life itself.
Was it you or Regina (using another nick) who says "she knows" why I come here? She accused me of trying to dissuade others from joining the RCC; that is not my reason, or one of them, at all! First of all, I come here because I WANT to, like others here, and that is our right, just as it is yours. Mainly I come here HOPING that some of the profound love and faith I once felt so deeply for the church will somehow "grab me" again. I was at one time totally in love with Catholicism, actually for most of my life. But I was indoctrinated into it at a very vulnerable time of my life (my dear dad was dying) and I needed something to cling to. My family was non-practicing Presbyterian, but they did not object to my conversion. One thing I remember, and this was NOT right - the priest told me (I was about 11 or 12) that if my parents objected he could secretly baptize me. BAD. However, my parents never objected so it's a moot point. I had total faith in the RCC. I never questioned a thing, but I was very young and thought priests could never be wrong. I don't know why, maybe it was Vatican II, I was prob. in my early 40's and I began to question it all. Then came the huge doubts, and the realization that over the centuries the church had done many wrong things and hurt a lot of people. And the miracle stuff - I think it's all bunk. I don't believe in ANY of the apparitions. And the over-veneration of Mary was the last straw for me. I said one time on here that everyone insists she was perfectly beautiful - how can they even guess at that? The apostles said Jesus was not comely (handsome) except to those who loved Him, but Mary has to be gorgeous? I said maybe she had a big nose or crooked teeth - wow! didn't I get jumped on! Well, why couldn't she have? The whole thing made me disgusted. I'm looking for realism, and THEN I'll believe.

Vatican II changed church laws to satisfy modern times. Before this one had to fast from food for 3 hrs. and 1 hr. for water before receiving communion. Heck today people can not even attend 45 min. Mass with out leaving to go to bathroom.
Gods laws/commandments have never changed or been changed.
What does it matter the physical beauty of anyone. It's what is in the heart/soul that matters. This is where the beauty radiates from.
Secretly baptized! Just like Archie Bunker did to his grandson. I would do the same thing, it's a very important sacrament Baptism. The priest just as Archie was only doing what they believed was right.
I'm happy you do come here Sherlayne, no matter what your reasons. Take care girlfriend.

well first off I know nothing about you other than what I read here. I have not posted anything about you either. It must have been who you suspect.

Topix can be like a soap opera!

If you study the original form of Christianity based on the Hebrew Scriptures you will find it is more logical and not only that the existence of the OMNIPRESENT GOD of Israel at the root of the teachings of the historical Jesus is in keeping with what we are finding scientifically concerning the foundation of existence for all of us.

Here is a wonderful video on youtube with some history of the Jewish Jesus that you might like:

It is a four part series. It is well worth watching!

Before my son met his wife, he'd been going with a Jewish girl. I adored her. For a short time they spoke of marriage. I promised the girl that there would be no "sneak baptisms" if they had kids, and I meant it. I could not have done that to them.

I'm always glad to see you also!! And by the way, Baptism is important to me also. My grandson will be baptized in the near future. I'll let you know :)

The twue believers want me arrested! Can you imagine that! Just like the good old days of the inquisition!

Since the burnings the church carried out to protect the faith are no longer accepted by mainstream society religious bullies everywhere are frustrated!

And with the anonymity of the Internet the frustration of these religious bullies is even stronger, as more and more of us freely speak out about the horrors of this politically inspired religion that falsely calls itself Christian yet rejects the OMNIPRESENT GOD of Israel at the heart of the ministry of the historical Jesus!

So far I have seen only one poster that had an intelligent answer to the question posed at the beginning of the thread.

Evidently the defenders of the faith must have ran out of ammunition. Reduced to hurling insults and threats, how pathetic!

Keep those ad hominem attacks coming though!

It allows lurkers here to see the fruits of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church!

We all need to get informed as to the evil nature of the Roman hoax of Christianity and it's many derivatives that deny the Jewish GOD and the Jewish Jesus and get involved in restoring true Christianity based on the OMNIPRESENT GOD of Israel to humanity that is even now being found to be in accord with the latest scientific findings concerning the nature of the Cosmos!

here is a little bit more information on reincarnation and the early church:

http://reincarnation.ws/reincarnation_in_earl...

I can understand why there is so much opposition to this information here on this thread.

If the early Christians actually did teach reincarnation as the evidence seems to indicate, it put's the church in the awkward position of being exposed as a political entity falsely claiming to be a church that outlawed the teaching of reincarnation simply to strengthen the control of the populace by the Roman Empire just as has been noted by many historians.

I don't know why the church is so opposed to the teaching of reincarnation. It makes far more sense than a one shot chance at heaven or hell.

With the findings of several missing gospels near Nag Hamadi in Egypt we are finding early Christianity to be much different than the Roman patriarchal hierarchical form of Christianity most people are familiar with today.

Here is an interesting discussion of reincarnation in early Christianity :

What! Nobody else who wants to state who was right, Emperor Justinian who banned the teaching of reincarnation, or Pope Vigiliu who defended it?

They can't both be right!

Oh let me add something else. I also get disgusted with the obsessive over-veneration of Mary. I've voiced that many times. I think it's sinful. So, I thought that message you posted was from someone else to ME, LOL. I guess it could have applied to several people.

Now, Grandpasmurf1952 - if they're calling for your arrest, you MUST obey- after all, their pope probably commanded them to do so and you dare not disobey Ratzi the Nazi, who's done everything right in his life. It's either that or the guillotine - and that could be a huge inconvenience, especially when you want to read a newspaper. Come to my house and I'll hide you under the carpet - oh,wait, that won't work either as we took all our carpeting out and put in Pergo floors. Sorry, you're doomed. I'll miss you, you little blue thing.

You know, it's kind of funny. I was laying in bed meditating on my existence this morning and I realized I have no enemies.

Only those who accept the delusion of a fragmented universe have enemies.

When we accept the OMNIPRESENT GOD and confirm our place in GOD as the historical Jesus did, we find only LOVE.

When Jesus was attacked by people who disagreed with his message, he did not say "My enemies attack me", rather he said "forgive them Father they know not what they do"

It's an incredible feeling to know that you are LOVED and so is everyone else, even those who have turned their backs on LOVE while busy judging their neighbors in obeisance to their fleshly masters in patriarchal hierarchical religions based on perpetuating the delusion of separateness from each other and separateness from GOD.
