The Catholic Hierarchy's Quest To Erase Same-Sex Marriages From The Universe

Mar 1, 2012 | Posted by: Gay And Proud | Full story: thinkprogress.org

Fifty years ago, the only Catholic President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, stressed the importance of separating church and state , imagining a nation "where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials." Fast forward to the present where Rick Santorum — also Catholic — feels that mentality makes him throw up, and it’s clear how much power the Catholic Hierarchy is now exerting over the debate about equality. The Church’s leadership has been particularly explicit on one particular issue, which is that it refuses to exist simultaneously in a universe with marriage equality for same-sex couples.

Sounds like the First Church of the Bountiful Butt Bangers, Reformed. One half of the congregation kneels and the other half does not.

Then God blessed them and said,“Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”(including those guys that keep winking at each other)

Birth control is healthcare because the medical community describes it as such.
It is prescribed for a whole host of reasons to women who are not sexually active, and therefore is a valid form of preventive care.
Most women taking hormonal birth control will immediately experience at lest one or more of the following minor symptoms:
Larger and/or Tender Breasts
Weight Gain or Loss
Increased or Reduced Acne
Nausea and/or Vomiting
Emotional Sensitivity
Mood Swings
Irregular Bleeding and Spotting
Bloating
Headaches or Migraines
Changes in the Eyes that Make it More Difficult to Wear Contact Lenses
Decreased Libido
Vaginal Infections and Irritation
Vaginal Secretion
Spotting or Darkening of the Skin
Nervousness
Loss of Scalp Hair
Increase in Body Hair
Fluid Retention
Dark Urine
Difficulty Sleeping
Fatigue

More serious side effects include:

Increased Risk of Cervical and Breast Cancer
Increased Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke
High Blood Pressure
Gall Bladder Disease
Infertility
Benign Liver Tumors
Loss of Bone Density
Increased Risk of Infection
Blood Clots
Depression
High Cholesterol
Changes in Vision, Loss of Speech and Weakness or Numbness
Jaundice
Abdominal Pain
Leg Cramps or Swelling of the Legs and Feet
Swelling of Fingers or Ankles
Shortness of Breath
Chest Pain
Coughing up Blood
Rash, Hives, Itching, Wheezing and Difficulty Breathing or Swallowing
Sudden Loss of Vision (usually a blood clot in the eye)
Painful Urination

I hate to be the one to bring this news, but prenatal genetic testing is already being discussed regarding homosexuality.

I suspect that parents who want to be grandparents will 'opt out' regarding gay kids.

The good news is that Christians who believe in the sanctity of life will be the 'salvation' of gays.

We all know the RCC uses money for things besides keeping the lights on. They have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to support anti gay campaigns.

The Fundamentalist Agenda By Davidson Loehr

http://www.uuworld.org/2004/01/feature2.html

From 1988 to 1993, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences sponsored an interdisciplinary study known as The Fundamentalism Project, the largest such study ever done.

The Fundamentalism Project

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fundamentali...

Fundamentalism, as it is presented in those publications, is not a purely Christian phenomenon. Rather it is a form of militant opposition to modernity that can be found in all—or at least many—of the world's great religions.

The study concluded that, regardless of the religion, fundamentalism has several commonalities:

Men are to lead and women and children follow. Wives are to be subservient to their husbands. Often, this subservience applies to sisters toward their brothers. A woman's role in life is to be a homemaker.
The rules of their religion are complex and rigid and must be followed. Therefore, to avoid any confusion, children of fundamentalists must be sequestered in an environment of like-minded adherents to the corresponding fundamentalist religion. Especially so in their schooling.
There is no pluralism. Their rules apply to everyone everywhere.
There is a distinct group of insiders and all others are outsiders. Insiders are nurtured and cared for. Outsiders are cast off and fought.
They pine for an older age and wane for a past time when their religion was pure, as largely they no longer see it as such. Oftentimes, this time period never truly existed, but they have a nostalgic view of a Utopian past and they long to acquire this past.
The research does not include Sikhism, the world's 5th largest religion.

Yeah, he's overstating it in gross, but not in fine.

If you assert that our orientation is choice and, as such, changeable; and attempt to structure Law and society to exclude us while demanding that we change then, yes, you are trying to "exterminate" us.

Rainbow kid is a bit over the top, but he's mostly right. It's the youythful passion and commitment that gives it all the exclamation points and hyperbole. He's still correct in substance. His "theology" is too fringe for me, and I think on very shaky ground, but that isn't the issue ... nor the thread topic.

I do not assert that your orientation is choice. I believe sexuality has a number of factors involving genetics and environment.

So I'm a "convicted Christian" who runs a hot dog stand. Based on my reading of Scriptures, I firmly believe that the races are not to mix.
And running my hot dog stand is part of my mission to "feed God's people".
Should I legally be allowed to refuse service to blacks & hispanics for religious reasons?
Don't make this a joke, please. I am dead serious in this analogy.
No joking.

You can't refuse service to people based on race. Compelling state interest overrides the religious objection (obviously backed by two tons of case history and court precedent RE: face based discrimination).

You'd never be able to make a case that ethnic discrimination is a tenet of your faith anyway.

Women are barred from the priesthood, and so from any decision-making or authority within the church.

Female Catholic "leaders" (we must use the term very loosely) have come out strongly in support of Obama's compromise, but of course it's the old men in red dresses and hats who make all of the decisions.

And don't start in with the "the Bible dictates men should lead" crap, either. Anyone with a brain who studies the Bible can see Jesus was radically inclusive of women, and that women like Marth, Mary, etc. were early leaders of the church.

Culturally they were unable to turn that corner back then, and elevate women to equal status. But we've done it in the modern world.... well, everywhere but the Roman Catholic Church.

It's just another example of the fetid, backwards attitudes that permeate Vatican City.

Every nation and faith on planet Earth has a 2000 year history of something that would pass as "discrimination" against women. Many nations and faiths STILL do it.
That's right. But only the RCC and some of the more backwards Protestant strains still do it here in America.

BTW only Catholics push that BS about Peter being "the first pope".

It's a fabrication of your church.

The Orthodox Church makes a similar claim on Peter. How do you know you're right, and they're wrong?
