What does religious freedom mean?

Aug 10, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: The Washington Post

In the United States, Muslim women trying to maintain modesty should get female-only hours at the public pool , right? What about Wicca troops who want a chaplain of their own, even if there are only a few thousand of them in the military? And Catholic business owners who believe that contraception is killing - should they have to provide it to ... (more)

I was not addressing anyone who is a pagan, I was addressing people who believe in God, but just don't know his name is Jehovah.

Many people are taught a Trinity god from the time they are children and believe whatever they are told in Church, they grow up without ever examining the Scriptures themselves.

Jesus is the word of God, and spoke the word of God

Religion Topix is for anyone who has a religious affiliation, I am just trying to do what Jesus said I should do, preach the word of God.

Unless you know and serve the one true God, Almighty God Jehovah, your worship is in vain.

(Matthew 15:7-10) 7 YOU hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about YOU, when he said, 8 ‘This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me.
9 It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines.’”

Excellent article!

How do people of different beliefs live together in one society? Tolerance is obviously the answer. But how does a devoutly religious person tolerate someone else’s beliefs and practices that he/she “know” to be contrary to the truth and “God’s” will?

You need to think about the basic concept of freedom. Does freedom mean you can do anything you want regardless of how it affects others? Of course not; most of us understand that you are free to do as you please so long as it doesn’t interfere with the freedom of others. The same goes for religious freedom.

"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." - Jesus

"What is hateful to you do not do to your neighbor; that is the whole Torah, while the rest is commentary. Go and learn it." – Hillel, Jewish Rabbi,(before Jesus was born)

"Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful." - the Buddha

"Not one of you truly believes until you wish for others what you wish for yourself." – Mohammed

"This is the sum of Dharma: Do naught unto others which would cause you pain if done to you".– Vyasa (Hindu)

All religions teach it but very few religious people practice it!

That is why the Scriptures, God's word the Bible identifies the true visible organized and united earth wide religion today.

Unless you accept the fact that there is only one true God, Almighty God Jehovah who sent his only begotten son to earth to redeem mankind from Adams inheritance of sin and death, you are in darkness and will stay in darkness. No matter what religion you belong to.

The true followers of Jesus and worshippers of the one true God in heaven are Jehovah's witnesses, and we can prove it. Look into the Scriptures with Jehovah's witnesses before it is too late.

Only the meek and honest hearted ones will accept and obey the truth of God's word. Psalm 37:11

There's NO such thing as one true religion. You are disrespectful to all other religions.

Please refer to the Christian God as your God, and not God in general. Pagans, Wiccans, Buddists, Hindus etc. all have their own. When you quote scriptures from YOUR BIBLE, you're quoting what you believe in. The Bible is not THE WAY, it's A WAY...you're being very obtuse

IF you truly believe that only YOU are worshiping the "correct" way, then you have gone into the Pagan lands against the orders of the one you claim to worship as was stated in Matthew. Time to shake the dust from your feet and move on.

Constantly claiming that YOU are the only ones who have it "right" is called PRIDE.
You cannot "prove" anything, your claims are simply your INTERPRETATION of those words which have been reinterpreted hundreds of times over.

Very true, some people don't know any better. What I did know, and still do, is that pushing your religion on someone else can be offensive. Even though I am no longer Christian, I don't tell Christians that what they believe is wrong, and that they need to Embrace the Divine from a Pagan or Wiccan point of view, I might not agree with it anymore, but I am not going to push my beliefs on them. If who you are and what you believe in truly makes you happy, then good for you.
You are the exact opposite of many Christians that I encounter. When I tell them I am agnostic, they judge me and tell me I MUST embrace their vision of the divine. Some even get belligerent about it.

Those who are most secure in their belief know that there is nothing to be gained by attempting to force their belief on others. From the Pagans like myself, if you're actually interested, you'll ask, otherwise it's each person's destiny to walk the path of their own choosing. Like most things in life, the really "good stuff" doesn't need a sales-pitch, when you're interested enough, you'll find it.

I figure it doesn't even rate that high... I mean once you've already told them that you don't believe in their God, what good does quoting scripture do other than show exactly what kind of jerk you really are?

I've always wondered why Atheists are so offended about God, when they don't believe in God.

Just more whiners to ignore I guess.

I doubt Catholics will leave the Democratic party because of Ryan ... They will see right through him ... he is a Randist not a Catholic.

I have a few friends that are Atheists, and it's not that they're offended by, and let me be politically correct..Dieties, they get offended when people tell them that what they believe and who they are is wrong, and I don't blame them. It's offensive to push your beliefs on someone who is different from you, it's WRONG to judge them. If they don't believe in "God" or any Dieties, they have that right, and their belief system deserves RESPECT.

Many seem to feel the words alone have power when spoken. Kind of like a spell if you ask me.

They're not offended by 'God', they are offending by Christians and a handful of other assorted narrow-minded zealous monothiests that are jerks.

Your right-so when a medicare patient shows up for emergency treatment the hospital is within its rights to say go to another hospital-right?

They aren't offended, they just get tired of having it constantly pushed on them, same thing as having a six year old insist that you have to provide an extra meal, extra seat, and not sit on their Imaginary friend, to the kid it may be real, to the adults it's just an annoyance.

Well, I don't know, if a spell doesn't work, you stop bothering with it, unless the spell was supposed to simply annoy other people. That wouldn't surprise me, intentionally annoying others to get them to eventually fight back just so they can claim they were being "persecuted". Some of the more fervent believers have that martyrdom thing really ingrained in them.
