What does religious freedom mean?

Aug 10, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: The Washington Post

In the United States, Muslim women trying to maintain modesty should get female-only hours at the public pool , right? What about Wicca troops who want a chaplain of their own, even if there are only a few thousand of them in the military? And Catholic business owners who believe that contraception is killing - should they have to provide it to ... (more)

My opinion on this is:

Female hours for public pools-yes I think that they should be allowed certain hours in public pools for women, so Muslims and any other religions can keep their modesty for women. This wouldn't be taking away the public pool for everyone else at all, forcing people to share shouldn't be a crime

Chaplains for Wiccan troops-if there are places of worship for Christian troops, then there should also be places for Pagans and Wiccans, if the government disagrees and they don't allow Pagans and Wiccans places of worship because of it, then they need to take away places of worship for Christians and other religions.

Contraception for employees working for Catholic companies-yes, if the law is now that businesses have to provide contraception, then that overrides personal opinion and belief...it's the law, people can believe what they want, or disagree with whatever they want, but the law is the law

Freedom of religion is freedom of ALL religions, it doesn't just pertain to one religion or belief system.

Please look up the cited Scriptures in your Bible.

We are living in the very last days of this world as we know it. Matt. 6:9,10

Satan the Devil is the god and ruler of this unrighteous world and his will is being done by people who don't even believe he exists.
2Cor. 4:4

Satan's influence is in the air we breathe on this earth, it is in religion, politics, entertainment or whatever a person can live for and or desire to satisfy his flesh. Revelation 12:9

People need to be studying their Bibles, letting God's word direct their thinking to make the necessary adjustments to become acceptable to Jesus as our heavenly reigning King.
John 3:36

Start your Bible study with Jehovah's witnesses so you can survive the end of this world into God's new world of righteousness. 2Peter 3:11-13

You're right, he does have the right to express his beliefs and opinions, where I got offended is when he listed passages from the Bible and told me to read them. I am a FORMER Christian, and I have read the Bible, and I don't appreciate someone of another belief system telling me what to do. I think my response to him was very polite, considering what I really wanted to say.

Religious freedom means the Catholic Church Hospitals sould not have to peddle birth control, or provide abortions. That little problem isn't going to go away for the Democrats, and Romney naming a Catholic Veep means Democrats will lose a big chunk of the Catholic vote.

I wouldn't mention bloody anything while Obama's old neighborhood is a killing field every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. No on cares about Bain Capital. The country is going to hell, there is no recovery again this summer, we owe every country in the world, half our people are too lazy to hold jobs, and you want us to care about Bain Capital, or Romney's tax returns? You are crazy. We don;t care what Romney is as long as he isn't Barack Hussein Obama.

No, religious freedom means that if a Hospital deems itself to be a "Catholic Hospital" then it should completely fund itself from 'Catholic Funds', if it chooses to accept Governmental Funding then it has to follow Governmental Guidelines. It's not a problem for Democrats, it's simply the way it is. Romney naming a VP that wants to eliminate Medicare means that he will lose a huge chunk of the Elderly vote who depend on Medicare.

The elderly people in America are smarter then the young coming out of our Government schools. They know when they are being lied to, and they are online, and can check every word out of our politicians mouths almost immediately. They don't trust Democrats any more then the general public. Obama had his chance to solve some of these problems, and chose to procrastinate thinking he had 4 more years. He doesn't. They did a poll almost immediately after Ryan became the V P candidate, and the Florida elderly wanted Ryan;s plan over the Obamacare tax.

Being a former Christian myself, I remember that I could not say ANYTHING about my religion without a scripture quote. It's like an instinctual reaction to most (but not all) Christians. I would not hold it against this person, they probably dont even know any better.

Very true, some people don't know any better. What I did know, and still do, is that pushing your religion on someone else can be offensive. Even though I am no longer Christian, I don't tell Christians that what they believe is wrong, and that they need to Embrace the Divine from a Pagan or Wiccan point of view, I might not agree with it anymore, but I am not going to push my beliefs on them. If who you are and what you believe in truly makes you happy, then good for you.

Religious freedom means that you can be just as bat$#!+ crazy as you want to be. And it also means that I do not have to respect, listen to or agree with such nonsense.

The statement that you don't have to listen, or agree with people that are different from you is a factual statement, only because of the 1st Ammendment. However I don't condone Disrespect.

You do your thing, and I will do mine and continue my quest to help bring peace and harmony amoungst people with different belief systems.

On a side note, I use the term "different belief systems" more often then I use "religion", out of RESPECT for others...Agnostics, Atheits, or people who don't know and haven't found their path.
