This is the same Bishop Olmstead who excommunicated Sister Mary McBride who, in conjunction with the rest of the hospital ethics committee, approved a medical procedure (on the basis of Directive 47 issued by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) which saved a womans life but resulted in the death of the fetus.
Bishop Olmstead comes in after the fact (not under the pressure of the moment) and passes judgment. As a bishop in The Roman Catholic he certainly wields a lot of power. He obviously trusts no one but himself to make a correct decision. Dont we all wish we were as wise and pious as Bishop Olmstead?
