Wrong! Sorry, there is a saying ' Bamar asa Tagaung ka', meaning 'Burma started at Tagaung' It is an ancient capital of the very first Burmese or Brahmah kingdom.

Burmese people do not know their history completely. A Thai has writen a book on Burmese history explaining that Burma was founded 3000 years ago by a prince of the Buddha family 500 years before the Buddha, from Kapilavastu. There was a very long line of kings stretching almost 1000 years.

Burmese monarchical system is Brahmanic in character. The royal Sash called Salwe is thousands of years old.
Monarchical dresses or attaires were very elaborate.

At Bagun began the first Burmese Empire. so it is incorrect to suggest that Burma started at Bagun.

One of the Taung branches went towards Yakhine, one to bagun and one to Thayaykistra.

All these ethnic divisions were created during the colonial era. Prior to that everyone, every native was Bamar. There had been a great deal of confusion because of colonial divide-and-rule.
Burmese government made a big mistake in renaming Burma Myanmar. In the formal written language Burma is called Myanmar Niangngan Taw, meaning Royal Myanmar State, in oher words Burmese Kingdom or Kingdom of Burma.
In spoken language the country was - and is Bamarpyi. Indians who are mature and educated in classics, Eastern not roman and Greek, call Burma Brahmadesh, meaning lad or country of creation. Brahma is Hindu creator god.

Burma is a very positive name.

Young Burmese need to learn Burmese history seriously, going to the very beginning at Tagaung.
