If a Christian says that G-d created the universe, how does a Buddhist should respond ?

I generally don't say anything. I move on to Buddha. I simply say in Buddhism, all that is good and pure is supreme and eternal, that supreme, all knowing wisdom is whom we call Lord Buddha. However, this supreme being is our very true self, we are separate from it due to our ignorance. When we follow precepts we stay in tune with the universe in accordance with the laws, when we break it, we get out of tune. This is the source of suffering. This is the creative process. As long as we are in tune and cultivate good, we are part of the divine creative process which is continuous and ongoing. That is why in Buddhism we say there was never a real beginning of creation, since it is ongoing. That is like saying the world started when you were born, even though your parents too were born before. Creation is a cyclical ongoing process.

Only Buddhists understand this cycle and the escape.

I have always thought it's the Twelve Nidanas that the universe came into being.
They are :
With Ignorance as condition, Mental Formations arise
With Mental Formations as condition, Consciousness arises
With Consciousness as condition, Mind and Matter arise
With Mind and Matter as condition, Sense Gates arise
With Sense Gates as condition, Contact arises
With Contact as condition, Feeling arises
With Feeling as condition, Craving arises
With Craving as condition, Clinging arises
With Clinging as condition, Becoming arises
With Becoming as a condition, Birth arises
With Birth as condition, Aging and Dying arise

Christians or the average religious person who simply believes in God wont understand what the you're talking about. The mind has not clarified yet. You have to understand their books just like the first Buddhists in China had to understand Taoist terms to translate into Chinese.
