Actually Bret if you think about it, there are really only two questions that sentient humans ask or are provided the answers for by 'authority figures'.

"Why am I here?"
"Is this all there is?"

Please tell me a religion, even atheism that doesn't provide the answers to those two questions.

Yes Bret, it really is that simple if you think about the humans who first pondered the two questions and their own existance. What more do you need to know to determine if you believe in an omnipotent being or something else?

I hope every sentient human who has dealt with those two questions are comfortable with their own personal answers. The answers are personal and can be as different as the number of people who have asked or been told the answers.

What else would be the basis for any religion if those two questions were never asked or considered?

Gasoline prices are determined by the market. The price of anything is generally set within a range which is determined by the cost of the item and the price consumers are willing to pay. When gas prices were below $1.78 recently, oil was around $30/barrel. Actually, oil is hovering around $60/barrel and gas prices here around $2.70.

Another controlling factor is the available refining capacity. Oil prices seem to be getting pressure from increased consumption in China as a result of there unexpected economic growth recently.(China has spent about 5% of their GDP on countercyclical government spending while the U.S. is spending only about 3%. The Chinese action may be sufficient to be more effective.) Incidentally, a consequence of the California budget problems has been a willingness to take seriously expanding drilling off the California coast. The potential revenue and supply stability from such action is obvious.
