"nearly atheistic" is a euphemism for "still believing in god, but not finding the right religion", in other words, not atheist at all.

The EDL and the GOP are going to have a field day over this, and just when the Islamists are getting violent again! Talk about bad timing.

It seems to me that many people are 'safe' to be at large in society, yet not entirely mentally competent.

Some people who don't fit-in and are 'looking for something' appear to me to display a need for acceptance and belonging. They may be looking for community and some dogma to follow. Maybe Holdbrooks is lucky that he 'found Islam' and not a more dangerous cult or ideology like white supremacy or something.

I may have found this on Topix and think it quite interesting, but was the preacher on the train in need of a mental health professional?....

Why would the GOP (much less the EDL) have a field-day over this? It's just an oddbod who 'found god'.

When the Islamists get violent the GOP and the EDL start to get even more paranoid and jump on any story, in this case I bet there will be somthing on Islam slowly converting people as atheism has made a God shaped gap for them to fill. Yes I s*** you not, that is a fear that some of them have.

Perhaps, but mind that you don't get more paranoid about the GOP or EDL than they are about Islamism.

You have to be paranoid about them they have done so much harm to their own country and they are so stupid, you can't even trust them with the remote for you TV!
Here’s a guy who went to this year’s C-PAC aand he defended slavery!
http://www.youtube.com/watch... just look at everyone’s reaction in that talk, there isn't any its a sea of er.
And the EDL with their failed surprise but “peaceful” protest…

54 apparently non-violent extremists attached to right-wing parties in two countries of about 380 millions? Sorry, I'm not sure I can share your perspective on this, although we both agree that GOP policies harm the USA.

I think I understand the reaction at the GOP meeting. Although the audience disagreed with the racist and saw his disgrace, ejecting him or even reacting much to such patent nonsense wouldn't have been the right reaction. And the 'liberal' lady apparently was trying to interupt and didn't have the floor. Better to let the racist speak so that he can't say that he was shouted down or that the session wasn't properly moderated.

Your problem with the EDL in general isn't clear either. Most people who attend BNP and EDL meetings seem to suffer as much (or even more) violence than they initiate, despite the fact that parties on the far right and left naturally attract the extremist element.

Anyway, I was simply making the point that this prison guard (Holbrooks) was just an individual (amongst hundreds of millions) who 'discovered Allah'. It happens. He will be viewed by most more as a nut than an atheist and I doubt if it is of much interest to the GOP, let alone the EDL.

And then they wonder why progressives are licking our chops at winning the next 4 presidential elections in our sleep.

about C-PAC surely this raceist s*** that guy was spreading deserves someone saying “f*** you!” at some point at lest after, but no not even that happened.
The EDL were saying they were going to a peaceful protest without going to the goverment first it clear wasn't going to be peaceful.
And would you care to give any links to the EDL or GOP getting their meetings by violence?

Something is lost and something gained in living every day, as the song says. One of the things that I feel British society has lost is tolerance and respect for others. So you would have shouted and sworn at the person we see as racist and you don’t accept that it should be for the moderator of a discussion to decide and control who has the floor?

Yes, that's easy...

Admittedly a Daily Mail article, but there may be some truth to it (and it’s all I can quickly locate). If I remember correctly, I believe I have seen Nick Griffin (BNP) suffer shouting abuse and be hit by an egg while simply trying to respond to a BBC reporter in the street. In fact, it often appears that so-called ‘anti-racists’ can be guilty of the least tolerance and the most violence.

Yes their should be a moderator but my point is why was everything still in control, if he said any were else verbal chaos would ensue with said swearing.
I was wrong there are those fighting the EDL who are that stupid! I will thank them for their brave actions by helping my enemies later… But we anti-racists having the least tolerance the majority of the uk are anti-racists but most of us don’t attack the bus, if we had the least tolerance every EDLer would need 24/7 pretention.

No one "converts" to a religion.

People are brainwashed and perverted by religion.

'Sad' was ambiguous, sorry.
I mean thanks for the kind replies and I'm delighted that you appear to support well-moderated discussion. I always feel sad when young people feel that they need to swear or behave badly or offensively to others. Or become agitated at all.

I was reading about why people swear and get unduly agitated. Some people seem to think swearuing is merely the use of words that are treated as taboo. I'm always sad when people find swearing natural and acceptable..

My philosophy (by way of explanation of myself, not criticism of you)....

If one isn't permanently outraged, one isn't paying attention.

I will try to have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
