Atheism requires as much faith as religion? bearvspuma : The only problem with this rationalization is that ita s assuming all athiests are so because theya re intelligent in the ways of science and reasoning and all people that believe in a form of god are unintelligent.

"Not religious" is NOT atheism.
I am not religious. I am not an atheist.
Is not possible to slam the Fundies without stooping to their deceitful practices ?
Yes it is. If you are not religious, you are atheist.

The reason is because atheism means not believing in god. Since god is part of religion, and you are not religious, it follows that you are atheist.

In this world, there are many many ignorant people, who haven't thought deeply about anything, but they are quick to shout.

<quoted text>Your position is found in the scripture yes. I was speaking of my personal relationship with god from my past. It doesn't offend me... I only know what my experience holds. If you want to say my relationship with god was non-existent from the very beginning of my religious practice because of something that I did wrong then that's fine, but I disagree, and understand that I followed as I should.
Think about it, if God was never real to you then that means you never were a Christian.

Jesus refused to teach the Pharisees because their hearts were closed.

Did you seek for God with your whole heart, if you did you would have found Him.

If you are not religious, but you believe in god, you are what is known as conflicted. It means you are not a logical person.

We can guess this from your approach.

<quoted text>When you look at the bible for what it is, there is no doubt that it is simply a book of fiction... no doubt full of things that are good and bad and also lessons that you can learn from it, but that makes it no more important that any of the millions of self help books or best sellers that line the shelves of book stores. If the bible was written by the inspiration of "god" then there should be no interpretations of it, it would be the "word" and that's it. Too many contradictions and way to many claims that simply are impossible or have been proven to be impossible.
So the bible cant be true because different people have translated older texts at different times?

<quoted text>Do not even start with "if you are an atheist, you have no morals" crap. It's disgusting that you would even dare to talk to someone that way simply because they don't share your religious belief. Morals are not based on religion...if they were then all religions would have the same morals and they don't... imagine that!
Read carefully, as an atheist you have no basis for morality.

You have no absolute standard if right and wrong.

If you do, share what it is.

<quoted text>Yes... apparently Obama thinks that if you are at a certain age and you get cancer or some other treatable health problem then you will not receive treatment and will be left to die simply because of your age.

That doesn't make it right.

The definitions do no fit. When we define something it is to make sure we know what that something is and that it's labeled correct? Read the definition of religion and then read the definition of Atheism.... are they one and the same? No.
You are missing the point.

Why do you get to define what atheism is?

<quoted text>Atheism is a lack of a belief. Some of us are not pre-committed, we had a realization. Big difference.
A lack of belief is a knowledge claim. You are claiming there is no evidence, which is a position.

You are not neutral.

<quoted text>Because it is: the burden of proof is **always** on the person making the positive claim.

You made such a claim: you claim "god is real".

PROVE IT.

If you cannot?

Your claim is FALSE.

Since, god is either REAL or NOT REAL?

If your claim is FALSE (as proven by your lack of proof)

Then god must not be real-- BY DEFAULT.
Nice try.

The burden of proof is on the person making the claim.

Negative or positive is irrelevant.

I would expect an actual **GOD** to **SURPASS** that with flying colors.

As a minimum standard.

Does your bible-god pass the HUMAN standard?

No.

Not even close: your god?

Accepts SLAVERY as being FINE.

Fail.

YOUR GOD ISN'T EVEN AS MORAL AS MERE HUMANS.
Who decided your moral standards?

This pretended neutrality fools no one.
You are pre-committed to deny Unicorns with no rational reason for doing so.

Shame on you and your war on Unicorns!
Nice try.

Are your unicorns omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and have actually engaged with man throughout recorded history?

<quoted text>The bible does not speak of Jesus, in the old testament.

1) the name is wrong
2) the town is wrong
3) the parental lineage is wrong

Those are 3 damning failures proving Jesus could never have been the Jewish messiah.

And that was without even trying....
And you think you have a deep knowledge of the bible?

I think you confuse intentional skepticism with actual knowledge.

<quoted text>That is correct, for two very good reason. First, How can it be free will when you must fear the consequences? That is completely in conflict with the definition of "free." I hold a gun to your head and say you have free will to give me your wallet or not. But if you don't I'll kill you. Free will means you give or receive something without expectation of return. Second, your God is said to be omnipotent, he knows all, can see the future, knows what will happen in the future, can see exactly what you are going to do. He can see the pathway you have taken. You come to a fork in the road and think you have free will to decide whether to go right or left, God however already knows what direction you chose, you CANNOT chose any other direction other that what God has chosen for you. That is unless you want to say that God cannot see into the future and does NOT know which pathway you will take. There is no such thing as "free will" just like there is no such thing and your God.
Omniscience denies free will?

So you knowing that someone driving a car into a wall at 100 miles an hour will kill them makes you responsible for their death, you knowing what would happen removes their free will?

Seriously, you really believe that?

I wonder how else a person is supposed to interpret "ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE." !!!! blargh...~calm now~ Sorry... hope you didn't mind my little blow up.:)
