Atheism requires as much faith as religion? bearvspuma : The only problem with this rationalization is that ita s assuming all athiests are so because theya re intelligent in the ways of science and reasoning and all people that believe in a form of god are unintelligent.

This is a good time to remind you that there are more atheist in this world that are atheist because they are forced to be, than there are that choose to be so. I would prefer being a black person in the 1840s in Georgia USA, than to be Chinese at this moment. Better dead than red.

Good then don't. Atheism sucks. Thank God it is just ideas of people like yourself instead of the truth.
Not just ideas... it is the complete truth at this point in time.

Allow me to disagree.

It's fulfilling to live a life without a crutch.

You believers need your god and your Bible the way a drunk needs a lamppost--not for illumination, but something to lean on.

So you are saying that God could not have forbidden slavery at that point, even just for Israel?
You dodged my questions. What is wrong with slavery? I did not say anything about God. I want to know what is wrong with slavery in a world without God? In a world without God it is man who determines these things for their time period based on their circumstances? What is wrong with that?
I thought the whole point of giving the commandments was to say what was allowed and what was not. Clearly, slavery *was* allowed.
So?
And God approved of it, at least under certain proscriptions.
God bashing? Will you blame the tooth fairy for cavities? Slavery was regulated for the benefit of the slave. To limit abuse. The actual institution is neutral. It was universal in the ancient world. Like i keep saying you atheists do not really care about slavery. You only mention it as it relates to Scripture. It is used a a basis to bash God and discredit Scripture. You only mention it in a narrow sense. Ignoring the fact it was universal and far more brutal in pagan cultures. Answer these questions.

1) If God approves of slavery then why did God liberate the Israelites from Egyptian slavery?

2) If God approves of slavery then why did Elisha liberate the children of the widow from debt slavery?
No, we have contempt for the Bible because the Bible is an evil book. We simply point out that evil. It condemns itself with its immorality.
So you admit you have contempt for the Bible and believe it is evil. Under what objective basis do you determine what is and what is not evil? Why is your position any more valid than say Bart Ehrman who considers it probably one of the most important books in the history of the West? For an atheist to suggest evil in an objective sense is hypocritical since you have no real objective basis and your judgements is a valid as your opinion.
<quoted text>
No, we care about slavery in the first place.
And for those who don't? Why is yours more valid then theirs?
We care about humanity in the first place. That is *why* we condemn the Bible and the evil within it.
Moralizing atheists is both sickening and hypocritical. Why don't you just admit you hate a God you do not believe exists.

Slavery strips the slave and the slaveowner of human dignity.

If you don't understand that, you are a sad, sorry person.

This is classic.
And **very** Jesus.
When one is pushed from the front, the "Bum" as you call it. Is the first thing that contacts the ground. That's not a obsession but gravity and the bio mechanics of the human body. You need to try harder Bob at being spiteful.

I agree but the lamppost as you identify it. Is really a strong tower. And we do lean on it from the inside.

Thank you for your input.[Tipping hat]

Only if you leave it at no faith.

There are many philosophies which start with the FACTS (atheism) and go forwards from there.

Secular Humanism is one such-- it's far-far more empathetic that your horrid religious bigotry.

S.H. is more **caring** too.

Because it puts one life at a higher level than another.

The master's life is given more "worth" than the slave.

That's one reason.

Another:**people** are not property.

That's two.

Both of the above? Go **against** what your ugly bible teaches, though.
