Dave, you're trying so hard, I guess you should get credit for that. Making up bathroom stories is a pretty weak offensive, but it's something anyway, and you definitely are trying hard. You really should be better at this though, since you've devoted such a huge amount of your life over the past 3 years participating in a forum where 90 percent of the people have contrary beliefs and who see you as a blowhard buffoon. Yet you keep coming back for your daily beatings... for THREE YEARS!
I'm curious as to why a Christian such as yourself would spend so much time on a Atheist forum. I once went on the Catholic forum for about an hour once, just to fuck with them, but it grew old quickly. I guess different people come to Topix for many reasons. But what kind of person spends the majority of his waking hours on a forum where 90 percent of the people have contrary views and opinions, and where most of them hate him and think he's a fool? I mean, I could see doing it for an hour or so just for shits and giggles, but you've devoted your life to trying to make people hate you. And I have to say, at least you've been successful at something.
I'm here for a variety of reasons. Primarily to let you and others show your stuff.

It's not the atheists I have the problem with, it is the quality of personality that claims to be such nowadays.

Plus it has recreational aspects.

So you think 90% of those on here are "right" headed?

That is like saying 90 mental patients in a ward with 10 staff are right.

I'm not surprised you would think so.

Poor Topix atheists. They are so clueless about their "non-belief". It reflects their lack of understanding and a certain difficulty in understanding language. This does appear to be a hardwired issue in their brains. Their neural nets are incapable of making associations beyond literal translations. One reason they have such trouble grasping allegories and metaphors. They can't collate the thoughts, ideas, and perceptions the normal human mind can do in an instant. Keeps them stuck on stupid.

If they weren't so juvenile and obnoxious they would be more pitiable.

Non-belief in the supernatural or metaphysical, which is where religions reside, is a religion.

Their limited mental development makes them blind to that.

There are/have been (confusion of the word immortal here) over 3,800 deities known in recorded civilisaton.
More than 2400 of them can be described as gods as the god of the babble is described.
There are more than 50 different English versions of the babble (who knows how many in other languages). They have stemmed from the KJV which was compiled by committee from various different, selected babbles in the early 1600s with the aim of reducing confusion. Not to mention that the original NT was itself compiled by committee in the mid 300ís. It is know that the original was edited and changed by monks thought the centuries prior to the definitive (LOL) editing by the king James team.
It is no surprise given this amount of confusion that there are now over 38,000 different active sects of christianity, each believing that their sect is the only one that their god approves of and anyone believing differently will go to hell.
And they say atheists are confused?
However given that I talk regularly to christians and Moslems about their faiths I believe that everyone who is a believer in religion has there own personal religion.
That is so true.

A little something funny... ;)

There is no problem understanding the use of metaphor and allegory. They are quite useful devices in *literature*. The difficulty comes when you think they have anything useful to say about *reality* in anything like a precise way. They do not. And, what we have found over the last millennium is that allegory and metaphor, while useful for the getting fuzzy felling from art, literature, and music, are not useful for actual precise understanding of the universe around us.

So, if you want to discuss some work of fiction and the use of literary devices to convey its message, we can do that. But if you want to actually be concerned with *truth*, we have to dispense with both and learn to work accurately.

FACT:

The Indisputable Parallels Horus and JC.

The Sun-god Horus was worshipped nearly 1,000 years before the story of Jesus. Now check these parallels:

1.Both were conceived of a virgin.
2.Both were the "only begotten son" of a god (either Osiris or Yahweh)
3.Horus's mother was Meri, Jesus's mother was Mary.
4.Horus's foster father was called Jo-Seph, and Jesus's foster father was Joseph.
5.Both foster fathers were of royal descent.
6.Both were born in a cave (although sometimes Jesus is said to have been born in a stable).
7.Both had their coming announced to their mother by an angel.
Horus; birth was heralded by the star Sirius (the morning star). Jesus had his birth heralded by a star in the East (the sun rises in the East).
8.Ancient Egyptians celebrated the birth of Horus on December 21 (the Winter Solstice). Modern Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25.
9.Both births were announced by angels (this si nto the same as number 7).
10.Both had shepherds witnessing the birth.
11.Horus was visited at birth by "three solar deities" and Jesus was visited by "three wise men".
12.After the birth of Horus, Herut tried to have Horus murdered. After the birth of Jesus, Herod tried to have Jesus murdered.
13.To hide from Herut, the god That tells Isis, "Come, thou goddess Isis, hide thyself with thy child." To hide from Herod, an angel tells Joseph to "arise and take the young child and his mother and flee into Egypt."
14.When Horus came of age, he had a special ritual where hsi eye was restored. When Jesus (and other Jews) come of age, they have a special ritual called a Bar Mitzvah.
15.Both Horus and Jesus were 12 at this coming-of-age ritual. Neither have any official recorded life histories between the ages of 12 and 30.

Here us something interesting...

Meeting for the first time in March 1985, the Jesus Seminar has periodically brought together dozens of university scholars and gospel specialists representing every shade of Christian thought, plus a few Jews and atheists.

In their initial study, the scholars collected more than 1500 versions of approximately 500 Jesus parables, aphorisms, dialogues, and stories written during the first 300 years of Christianity.

After 6 years of debate and reflection the consensus was that 82% of the words attributed to Jesus were fake.

In phase two, between 1991 and 1996, the Jesus Seminar considered 387 versions of 176 'Jesus events'. Their conclusion: 84% of the activities attributed to Jesus were bogus.

In contrast, Caesar's words and deeds are fully documented by multiple witnesses.

Caesar was an eyewitness to many of the events he describes in his commentaries. He wrote not for posterity but to have an immediate impact on the power players in Rome as he schemed to advance his own career.

The elapsed time between the wars and Caesar's own writing was a matter of months or at most a few years.

In contrast, the elapsed time between the gospel reports and the supposed events that they describe is at least 40 years for 'Mark' and 60-70 years for the other three Gospels.

And just who was witness to that fabulous nativity, 30-odd years before the grande finale?

At the most generous understanding,'Luke' and 'Matthew' were recording hearsay testimony a century after angels, shepherds and wise men went calling.

The unembellished truth is that the gospel accounts were written by eyewitnesses to nothing but their own skills of fabrication.

For good reason, based on spatial and temporal proximity alone, historians give more credence to Caesar's commentaries than to the gospels, no matter how prolifically they were copied.
