2 – Flavius Joseph a Romano-Jewish historian (37-100AD) Book 20 Chapter 9,1 "the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, whose name was James" Modern scholarship has almost universally acknowledged the authenticity of the reference

- How does one explain what happened in Portugal at Fatima in 1917,“The Miracle of the Sun” which was witnessed by an estimated 30,000 – 70,000 people? Witnesses included Masons, Communists, Atheists and Christians.

No it's a legit question as not all Christians believe Jesus was god. Many believe he was merely the son of god and completely separate. They passionately believe in Jesus just not that he is god.

*sigh*

Ask a Christian that believes in Jesus "which god?" & they'll answer "God".

Ask a Christian that doesn't believe in Jesus "which god?" & they'll answer "God".

Very simple to deduce.

Supposed Jesus witnesses

Josephus - Born 37 CE
Phlegon - Born about 80 CE
Tacitus - Born 56 CE
Pliny the Younger - Born 61 CE
Suetonious - Born about 69 CE
The Babylonian Talmud - 200CE
Lucian - Born 125 CE
Phlegon - 2nd century

How exactly are these guys witnesses to something that happened before they were even born?

Hearsay isn't admissible in court for a reason ;)

Tacitus was born in 56 CE, more than two decades after the alleged execution.

In fact, his writings about Jesus were done in 116 CE. This cannot be anything but 3rd hand (if not 4th or 5th) retelling, and the historical validity of the tale is therefore nil.

Since he was the first to write about it, where did he get the info? Surely not from earlier writings, right?

Those 'scholars' are therefore speaking through their hat.

Josephus also wrote of Heracles. Josephus wrote about many mythical deities.
http://books.google.com/books...
http://books.google.com/books...

Josephus wrote about other deities more than the mythical Jesus! deity. Using Christian logic, we should believe in all of the deities, not just the Jesus!, yes?

The Tacitus reference is questioned too, and evidences some tampering.
http://www.natzraya.org/Articles/Christian/Ch...

The mentions written down by Tacitus, Josephus, Eusebius etc..., are only representing the legend or myth surrounding the Jesus! They wrote down what was purported to be. Nothing more. They do not represent first hand knowledge of anything except what was purported to be, and that was long after what was alleged to have happened.

Simply put, evidence of belief is not evidence of reality – and if that line of argument had any validity it would better validate the 3000 plus years of Egyptian and Indian deities, and the almost as long-lived Gods of Greece and northern Europe!

The deceit is continued with testimony from "expert believers" showcased as 'evidence' for a god whose existence was questioned even in the 2nd century.

You guess!?!? Well hey, how about you ask your god and question? If you get the right answer from your god, then I will believe!

What? Your god will no play? Why not? It would bring glory to him. Isn't that the main criteria for him?

Amusing.

Jesus could show up big and bright in the sky tomorrow, no mistake in who it would be, Then you would run and find a I love Jesus button, pin it on, then run to the head of the line waiting for your reward, because now you have proof.

Several of the soviet generals and leaders were believers and even devout Christians. Communism and atheism are two different things.
Again nothing to do with atheism and you know it.

I notice you don’t bother to leave references. There of course is a reason for that. You don’t have any.

“The Soviet Union had a long history of state atheism, in which social success largely required individuals to profess atheism and stay away from houses of worship”

State atheism is the official promotion of atheism by a government, sometimes combined with active suppression of religious freedom and practice. In contrast, a secular state purports to be officially neutral in matters of religion, supporting neither religion nor irreligion. State atheism may refer to a government's anti-clericalism, which opposes religious institutional power and influence in all aspects of public and political life, including the involvement of religion in the everyday life of the citizen.

State promotion of atheism as a public norm was first practiced during a brief period in Revolutionary France. Since then, such a policy was repeated only in Revolutionary Mexico and some communist states. The Soviet Union had a long history of state atheism, in which social success largely required individuals to profess atheism and stay away from houses of worship; this attitude was especially militant during the middle Stalinist era from 1929–1939. The Soviet Union attempted to suppress public religious expression over wide areas of its influence, including places such as central Asia.
