"See here, old fellow," said Jesus kindly, "this is heaven. The sun is shining, you've got all you could want to eat, all the instruments you might want to play-- you're supposed to be blissfully happy! What's wrong?
"Well," said the old man, "you see, I was a carpenter on earth, and lost my only, dearly beloved son at an early age. And here in heaven I was hoping more than anything to find him."
"Tears sprang from Jesus' eyes. "FATHER!" he cried.
The old man jumped to his feet, bursting into tears, and sobbed, "PINOCCHIO!"

Correct. Saying that Atheism requires as much faith as religion is like saying that abstinence is a sexual position.

there is no atheist bible, no atheist doctrine, no atheist faith. it is merely not being a theist who believes in god. a means not. it is the religious nuts who want to define atheism as anything more complex.

a smart atheist is also an agnostic and does not claim to know, but merely does not believe in that particular form of nonsense (theism). however, some theists can be nice persons. not being very smart is too bad, but still if they are nice, no reason not to be friendly to them. they were most likely brainwashed as children and not taught to reason. one can feel sorry for them, and be kind to them. just find intellectual intelligent friends who are agnostic atheists and nice as well, in order to have smart friends to talk with openly about such matters as theology. one hopes many nice persons will have strong preferences for ethcial behavior in the sense of kindness, rather than silly theistic-dominated moralistic strictures.
There is no atheist heaven or hell.
There is however Gods heaven and hell
And he gets to pick who goes where for ever and ever.

Atheist are like an ostrich they bury their head in the sand of science in hopes that hell will go away and not see them.

Atheist, have a nice day, because once your night comes there will be nothing more to enjoy.

Naturally. Hey keep the crazies out of the public square and politics and return religion to where it should be, in the private home and church and I would be happy.

<quoted text> obviously you are correct in general. I do not think that all atheists are pacifists or that all persons of faith are pro-violence, however. It is too bad that it is mostly the extremists of the far right on politics and religion represent themselves as spokesman for so called conservatism, when they are very far from being respectable conservatives. It is a usurpation both on internet and in the real world - American political and religious arguments are too vicious because the far rightwing extremists represent themselves as speaking for the conservatives. Look at Sebator Cruz, and you see and hear the memory of Senator Joe Carthy. Probably a hero of some of the rightwing extremists on topix.... but all conservatives and all Christians are not evil just because the noisy rightwing extremists have stolen the limelight and the reputatable center right is drowned out with their yelling.

I have seen first hand time and time again the damage and heart breaking situations brought on by theists. The same theists who come crawling to us to help fix their mess! Oh but while we are fixing it are we thanked? Nope. We barely get the figurative broom in hand and they are shrieking at us for not believing in their imaginary friend.
Honor? I guess it is a relative term. The dozen of urban low income students I assist for free with their biology and pharmaceutical homework at two different colleges locally would probably say good ole KJ is an alright dude.
Now if coming on topix and giving the theists a little taste of backbone, the theists who try to intimidate and silence non believers because they think we should all be meek and humble and tolerate their abuse and repeated logical fallacies makes me vile, Without reason, Disrespectful, In someone's opinion? So be it, hmmm I will chuckle about how vile And disrespectful I am Friday at U of L for the 6 hours I am assisting the students there as a volunteer. Or perhaps this summer as I am passing out thousands of dollars worth of free medicine and other essentials trying to save some more homeless from dying. Yes I was walking by a group of people there and they were huddled together praying loudly and crying. I looked in and a young girl was on the ground dying of dehydration. Instead of getting her water and rushing her to the hospital they stood there holding hands and praying! I grabbed my cell phone and called for an ambulance and started trying to get her to drink. Slowly she sipped the water as the praying continued. The ambulance came after almost an hour and reluctantly took her to the hospital, the paramedic said she was good as dead and best leave it in the hands of Jesus same thing the crowd thought. She died 18 hours later. They didn't even know her name and couldn't figure it out.
I guess I'll somehow deal with being called disrespectful.

I would like your comment of the following

Independent Non Christian sources on the existence of Christ Jesus
1 -Cornelius Tacitus Non Christian (56 – 117AD) historian and Roman Senator in a passage ‘Annales, book 15, verse 44’ refers to Christ, Pontius Pilate and a mass executions of Christians. General scholarly view considers Tacitus to be authentic

2 – Flavius Joseph a Romano-Jewish historian (37-100AD) Book 20 Chapter 9,1 "the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, whose name was James" Modern scholarship has almost universally acknowledged the authenticity of the reference

- How does one explain what happened in Portugal at Fatima in 1917,“The Miracle of the Sun” which was witnessed by an estimated 30,000 – 70,000 people? Witnesses included Masons, Communists, Atheists and Christians.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_of_the_S...

- How to explain the Apparation of Mary in Egypt Cairo 1968 witnessed by thousands called Our Lady of Zeitoun?

- How to explain the miraculous healing of people in Lourdes France and in Bosnia-Hercegovina in a place called Medjugorje where 100,000’s of people go annually.

- How to explain the wounds on the hands, feet and side of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina
(1887 – 1968) which were those of Jesus & his ability to read people and physically heal people all in the name of Jesus.

-How to explain how Holy woman Alexandria da Costa (1904-1955) survived for many years only the Eucharist. Verified by independent doctors on a 40 day monitoring program

- How to explain how Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774 – 1824) had wounds which were those of Jesus on her body.

This is just a small sample of unnatural phenomena attributed to God's intervention.

No it's a legit question as not all Christians believe Jesus was god. Many believe he was merely the son of god and completely separate. They passionately believe in Jesus just not that he is god.

*sigh*

Ask a Christian that believes in Jesus "which god?" & they'll answer "God".

Ask a Christian that doesn't believe in Jesus "which god?" & they'll answer "God".

Supposed Jesus witnesses

Josephus - Born 37 CE
Phlegon - Born about 80 CE
Tacitus - Born 56 CE
Pliny the Younger - Born 61 CE
Suetonious - Born about 69 CE
The Babylonian Talmud - 200CE
Lucian - Born 125 CE
Phlegon - 2nd century

How exactly are these guys witnesses to something that happened before they were even born?

Hearsay isn't admissible in court for a reason ;)

Tacitus was born in 56 CE, more than two decades after the alleged execution.

In fact, his writings about Jesus were done in 116 CE. This cannot be anything but 3rd hand (if not 4th or 5th) retelling, and the historical validity of the tale is therefore nil.

Since he was the first to write about it, where did he get the info? Surely not from earlier writings, right?

Those 'scholars' are therefore speaking through their hat.

Josephus also wrote of Heracles. Josephus wrote about many mythical deities.
http://books.google.com/books...
http://books.google.com/books...

Josephus wrote about other deities more than the mythical Jesus! deity. Using Christian logic, we should believe in all of the deities, not just the Jesus!, yes?

The Tacitus reference is questioned too, and evidences some tampering.
http://www.natzraya.org/Articles/Christian/Ch...

The mentions written down by Tacitus, Josephus, Eusebius etc..., are only representing the legend or myth surrounding the Jesus! They wrote down what was purported to be. Nothing more. They do not represent first hand knowledge of anything except what was purported to be, and that was long after what was alleged to have happened.
