Atheism requires as much faith as religion? bearvspuma : The only problem with this rationalization is that ita s assuming all athiests are so because theya re intelligent in the ways of science and reasoning and all people that believe in a form of god are unintelligent.

It's really cute how atheists feel a need to put human limitations on God.

A lot of good info there. Indeed we lack any real historical proof for Jesus.

Which Jesus?
Christianity was the ultimate product of religious syncretism in the ancient world. Its emergence owed nothing to a holy carpenter. There were many Jesuses but the fable was a cultural construct.
The nativity yarn is a concatenation of nonsense. The genealogies of Jesus, both Matthew's version and Luke's, are pious fiction. Nazareth did not exist in the 1st century AD the area was a burial ground of rock-cut tombs.
With multiple authors behind the original gospel story it is no surprise that the figure of "Jesus" is a mess of contradictions. Yet the story is so thinly drawn that being a "good Christian" might mean almost anything.
The 12 disciples are as fictitious as their master, invented to legitimise the claims of the early churches. The original Mary was not a virgin, that idea was borrowed from pagan goddesses. The pagan world knew all about virgins getting pregnant by randy gods: The Mythical "Virgin Mother".
Scholars have known all this for more than 200 years but priestcraft is a highly profitable business and finances an industry of deceit to keep the show on the road.
"Jesus better documented than any other ancient figure"? Don't believe a word of it. Unlike the mythical Jesus, a real historical figure like Julius Caesar has a mass of mutually supporting evidence.
The case for a mythical Jesus Nailing Jesus. Book review: Ehrman - Did Jesus Exist? Popular scholar recoils from the abyss. A rescue mission for the "Jesus of history" The New Apologists.

Is that an admission that you agree there is no evidence to suggest it's true?
And yes, I do have evidence to suggest it isn't: it conflicts with scientific knowledge. It also conflicts with all our experiences in this world in which gods never show up to be documented.
You still haven't provided us with a single reason to believe Jesus was a god or performed any of the miracles in the Bible. Why not?
Um.... Please tell the class what "scientific knowledge" has developed a way of testing Jesus' abilities.

We'll wait.

Way to change the topic.

We were discussing trends. That religiosity is DECREASING in the 1st World.

Also, your numbers are bogus. For example, when Norwegians were surveyed, 84% said they belonged to a Christian church, yet *ONLY 32%* said they believed in God.

Scientific knowledge tells us that brains die quite quickly. Jesus died. And stayed dead.

You can't validate a religious claim with another religious claim.

Prosecutor: John Smith murdered the victim!
Defense: John Smith has an alibi. He was 1000 miles away.
Prosecutor: John Smith can teleport!
Defense: There's no evidence of John Smith, or anyone, being able to teleport.
Prosecutor: John Smith is a god, so he can!

I bet that argument would hold up well.

That's 0.0005% of the population of the the world converting. Not a very fast growth, it's slowing down in more educated locales, and increasing a lot in places like Africa. Which does not bode well for you, because a starving person will convert to any religion for a slice of bread.
Don't forget much of that population is young yet, and going through a phase of rejection of religion. They tend to come back into the fold as they age.

Over a sixth is between 20-29.

Hey, Grumpy, you are typical topical and shallow Topix atheist. Just because someone else does something they say is cool, you gotta think and do it, too.

You see everyone else die, so you figure you will, too.

Your body will, but the light that shone in it necessarily doesn't.
