That is sad news, indeed.

**REAL** scientists are wondering why the numbers are so high-- where did the educational system fail these nutjobs?

Because make no mistake-- evangelical christians are ILL SUITED to scientific principles.

Science **DEMANDS** that you follow the EVIDENCE WHERE IT LEADS.

Evangelicals DEMAND that you IGNORE ANY AND ALL FACTS, if it contradicts the ugly bible...

Yes, yes-- it IS funny that you, being gay, would display such hate for gays.

But it's a trait quite common among Genuine Christholes™-- you are full of self-loathing.

Don't be so damn stupid, Brother Marine.

Asking why slavery may not be wrong in certain circumstances is like asking if rape may be ok in certain circumstances.

Wrong. The foundation of Christianity is submission. That is the only value - deny your will, deny your appetites, and submit. Do it and go to heaven, or don't and burn. That's the Christianity.
KiMare wrote:
You deny the New Testament encourages moral behavior for Christians?
Why do you keep saying the New Testament? Your bible has an Old Testament attached to it that is actually larger forms the basis for much of the church's doctrine and political Christianity. It's the source of the homophobia that dominates the news (as well as your posting), of the Ten Commandments that Christians want plastered over courthouses, and of the creation myth that is being defended with design pseudoscience. It's where the prophecies you got into a lather about reside.

Furthermore, the Christian bible is all but irrelevant in determining the behavior of Christians. It can be used to promote nearly any idea or its opposite, and it is, which is why the same bible is used by the Quakers and the Klan, and by slavers and abolitionists.

What matters are the examples set by people speaking for the god. If prominent Christians embody the loving, pacifist god in their behavior, that is what people will be taught. The opposite is true as well. When prominent Christians like Bush, Robertson, and Palin embody hypocrisy, dissembling, or selfish hatred, that is what is taught and learned. The church's treatment of gays and atheists makes a mockery of its lip service to the Golden Rule.

I told you lightheaded, it's wrong because we say it's wrong. Since we say it's wrong it's wrong anytime and every time.

Yes. ID is not scientific.

Doesn't sound like submission to me.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NASB)
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

I chose a passage from the NT book specifically addressed to Hebrew Christians.

Hebrews 1:1-3 (NASB)
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways,
2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

At this point, I think 'rational atheist' oxymorons need to face their own destitution. Judging by your denial, hatred and bigotry exhibited on this thread, you condemn yourselves...

Smile.

Well done, Doc.

You have outlined the chief problem with the ugly bible: it can be made to say **ANYTHING**.

And you point out another problem with it: It is used by bullies to hurt people.

And bullies are the correct term for the Palins, the Robertsons, the Bushes, the other hate-filled Genuine Christians ™ of the world.

These people?

Are 100% proof that there is NO GOD behind Genuine Christianity™.

What sort of god would permit such as these to represent it?

Answer: either an EVIL god?

Or one that simply wasn't there in the first place.

The latter is the most likely hypothesis-- due to all the missing "acts of god".
