"The God of the Qur'an is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

The OT is full of it. That's why Muhammad stole his religion from the OT. There is very little of the NT in Islam. After all if he followed the teachings iof Jesus he would not be able to kill and take sex slaves.
The New Testament has it's own share of nastiness, just not as bad as the old.
“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”(Matthew 5:18-19 RSV) Clearly the Old Testament is to be abided by until the end of human existence itself. None other then Jesus said so.

2) All of the vicious Old Testament laws will be binding forever. "It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)

3) Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn’t the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

Most of the nastiness in the NT comes not from Jesus but Paul. Though he was a good poet. And Jesus did not change any dots and he did not change one iota but he did change laws. He was executed for heresy. He saved a woman from being stoned to death as was the judaic law. He told people to give the thief his coat and not chop his hand off and he said turn the other cheek rather than take an eye for an eye.

Turning the other cheek and loving your enemies is the opposite of the Judaic law so he did object to the old laws. He said:
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness
Matthew 23:27

The old laws are dead men's bones.

Lying about god isn't going to make it real. You need to concentrate on telling he truth instead of lying to atheists.

The bible is full of inconsistencies in both the OT and the NT, so it's not surprising to see the NT and the OT contradict each other.

You sound like a lawyer searching for any technicality to justify your client. The point is that Jesus never condemned the law, in fact he said that he came to fulfill it.

If so, than why do you guys have the OT as a part of the "holy" book? If so, why do you still worship the nasty god who ordered those crimes?

Agree. Most people pick and choose what suits them.
emperorjohn wrote:

Jesus was constantly under the threat of prosecution by the pharisees so had to be carfeful what he said. If he had condemned the law outright he would have been crucified. He was crucified anyway. Coming to fulfill the law could be interpreted as being the messiah with laws that supercede the OT.

Who is 'you guys'. You are under the misapprehension that I am a Christian. I am giving an interpretation of the NT.

I think islam is awful in so many ways but I don't claim that 99% of muslims are evil. Most believers are normal enough and eat cheese like the rest of us.
Prove your claim that 99% of muslims are potential murderers using evidence not scripture. If you want to use scripture, I can "prove" the same 99% claim for christianity.
<quoted text>
Having reduced yourself to childish abuse it is you who are the right wing thicko.
I don't claim 99% of muslims are evil. I neither claim that 99% of Germans in Nazi Germany were evil. What I do claim is that the vast majority of Germans supported a nazi ideology and fought for its right wing racist ideas. The same applies to islam. It's called cognitive dissonance. That's give you something to use your lazy thinking on.

Thats exactly what a religious liar with no proof of god would say in their defense, after being caught lying.

I'm not extreme. Islam is extreme. Muslims worship a racist mass murdering rapist who took sex slaves. He was a misogynist and homophobe. I am a democrat opposing it. You are defending it. You are the extremist.

Unquotes.

It is obviously absurd to argue that Thinking is defending Islam and talking as if one knows 'what Jesus said' or that a god sent a prophet was sent to Earth does sound rather extreme. It is certainly superstitious.

May I suggest this is more satisfying without personal attacks please? I hope we might agree there's no need to be agitated.
