Why Atheism Will Replace Religion

Aug 27, 2012 Full story: News24 14,477

Please note that for this article "Atheism" also includes agnostics, deists, pagans, wiccans... in other words non-religious.

You will notice this is a statement of fact. And to be fact it is supported by evidence (see references below). Now you can have "faith" that this is not true, but by the very definition of faith, that is just wishful thinking. Full Story

I suppose life is simpler when you don't have to consider the longer range consequences of your actions and can just prescribe everything as preordained by magic.

I don't like it when my rationally thought out vote is cancelled by someone with a "magical basis" for their thinking.

So what do you plan to do? Is putting people down going to help you any?

Yes, if it provokes them into actually thinking for the first time in their lives. Try it! You'll like it!!

So arguing provokes thinking? So every theist on this planet don't think for themselves? Can you prove that? So what do you plan on doing about theists?

Speaking for myself only, it is because you are a misinformed idiot with next to nothing in the way of common sense.

I would not want you around my children, neices, nephews or my home. I've heard you demented types screaming on street corners and I give them a wide berth.

Fine!! Someone calling themselves "Josephus" wrote a lot of manuscripts in 50+ AD. That person, whoever they actually were did exist, we know this because the manuscripts exist.
There isn't nearly that amount of evidence for this Jesus fella, seems Almighty God in human form woulda known enough to write something down.
Happy now?
The only 'regular character' in the bible that has been independantly verified is Pontius Pilate. His name appears on some Roman records as a mid level administrator of some sort.

Yes! It can!

No, they don't. Religion is for frightened infantile minds who prefer absurdities to uncertainties.

You just did prove that.

Provoke them, make them think, educate them.

...... An Almighty All Knowing God created us, and did such a poor job of it, that we were far less than he wanted us to be. So he had to come to Earth as a human and commit suicide by Centurion so that he would be able to forgive himself and us.....

Really? We are so horrid that we made God kill himself?? Really??

Right, but that doesn't mean he met anyone by the name of Jesus, Immanuel or even Dick Clark.

First of all, I am no idiot and I don't preach to anyone. I don't try to convert or do I pray with you. I am a theist but that is my choice. The reason I am no idiot is what I do for a career. I do own businesses and I guarantee it took a brain to get there. I worked hard. I also do not slow anyone to preach to me either because of choice. You have the choice to believe or not to believe and I respect that. But you respect me too.

So by your quotes about the past and now in the present, am I blind and a murderer that commits atrocities? I believe in God but in no way am I frightened. I also don't tell people what to believe either. Why should you care what anybody believes? You like to use the educational barrier to try to prove to others how intelligent you are by debating. Prove it by doing something worthwhile. Take action, show that you have a heart for something worthwhile. Personally it's my right to believe in God like its yours not to believe. In your eyes and the eyes of other atheists which are the minority do not contribute as much as theists do. If you do, please show me how.

If I met someone who insisted as he believed, that women are inferior to men, and there is no evidence for such a thing, it would make no sense for me to respect that belief.

If I met someone who insisted as he believed, that black people are inferior to white people, and there is no evidence for such a thing, it would make no sense for me to respect that belief.

So when I meet someone who insists there is a magic sky daddy who protects us, and there is no evidence for such a thing, it makes no sense for me to respect that belief either.

You have to earn my respect and you have failed miserably at that. Your bragging and pontificating are nothing to me. You can say anything on the internet and unless you wish to impart your name and address, your self aggrandizing cannot be verified. I've often found that people toot their own horns because no one else will.

My post stands as it is.

You think that prayer is a "contribution". The fact is that helping hands are far more useful than praying lips. Some of the largest charitable organizations in the world are Atheist organizations. In fact, no God is required to have a spiritual nature. But the belief that our "spirit" is eternal is folly.

"I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking. The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there's little good evidence. Far better it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides." - Carl Sagan

You don't need to believe what theists believe. Never! My intention is never to preach to you or argue the bible or religion with you. I just like the freedom of choice which is a wonderful gift for all. I also believe in equal rights and women are not slaves. My best friend is an atheists and I would never trade his friendship for anything.
