Perhaps religion needs an enemy in order to survive. Religion often seems to be about 'them and us', or 'we're not like them'.

Religion = superstition
and its divisive too.

This illustrates the difference between ignorance and stupidity. Ignorance is the lack of information, or the lack of accurate information. Stupidity is the inability to process information which is in one's possession, or readily available. Ignorance can be "cured" by access to information. No amount of information can fix stupid. Information about the religious nature of the Taliban and their enthusiasm for making the state a tool of religion is readily available to anyone with just a few clicks. Mr. Fischer isn't ignorant. He is stupid.

Damn good point! It reminds me how even as a kid in the old baptist church the preacher would poke fun or even outright slam other Christian churches for being misguided or evil.

Jews, Muslims and scientologists were just outright doomed unless they renounced their religion totally.

Certainly was this us vs them mentality.
