So much for the humanity demonstrated by a confessed atheist.

What would you say if the same was said by religionists about atheists?

Religion is doctrine. Words written down that tell people how to live and worship an imagined deity, the "supernatural", or some other philosophy that deals with a belief supported by faith.

I imagine I'd feel about like atheists in the past have felt if religionists wanted to lock atheists up, however.

Then you are completely deluded.
Marxism, which an atheist ideology, made its mark in the 20th century by the incredible number of people it persecuted, and executed for their beliefs.
Look no further than the Soviet Union, Mao's China, Cambodia under Pol Pot, North Korea until now: all atheist states.
Probably that the largest number of people executed were reached in atheist states: up to 60 millions under Stalin, at least 60 millions under Mao, up to 5 millions under Pol Pot, etc... All that in the name of eradicating religions at the great altar of atheism!
The Middle Age religious wars that engulfed Europe never matched those numbers, and the spread of Islam after the 8th century neither did!
Let's face it; the biggest killers have been those inspired by atheism! Care to contradict that now?
Question: have any of these people killed IN THE NAME OF ATHEISM?

No?

Why DID they kill-- oh, that's right-- to cement their power structure into place. And to eliminate dissidents.

Not because of atheism.

But even THOSE numbers? Pale when compared to the numbers of murdered BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT CHRISTIANS.

Or they were not the "right" kind of christians.

Those values exceed all others, combined.

Imagine that?

Yes, purely because of atheism.

Because religion became an obstacle on the way to an atheist state, so the believers were persecuted and killed in great numbers in ALL the atheist states.

First the clerics (priests, rabbis, imams) were killed, because they are judged to have power over their flock, and condemn atheism. And then the believers, ones who follow religions,, because they refused to give up their faith. Then, ther buildings themselves (churches, synagogues, mosques) were desecrated, demolished, because they are symbols of religious faith. Then, the holly books, bibles, Quran and religious libraries were burned, to erase any texts that didn't endorse atheism.

Religion is by nature dissident in an atheist state. Faith will always be the opposite of denial.

Do we want the same fate in future? No. WE should learn from the past.
Atheism is a dangerous doctrine, and when atheists seize power, they seek to eliminate by force ALL the religions.

You are wrong.

Any fundamentalist ideology, religious or otherwise, is wrong.

<quoted text>Then you have nothing to worry about. Don't get your knickers in a twist.
I suspect that what really bothers you is that what I say is essentially correct.
Religion = superstition
That is your problem my friend, not mine. I'm uninterested in religion/atheism per se. I'm unhappy at the problems religion causes that I've listed above.
I mean why dont you just live and let live and allow people have their faith and leave them alone?
You keep you opinion to y our self.I dont try ram my beliefs down your throat so dont disrespect mine.
Is what i am saying.
Do you have friends of religious faith or parents or family members?
Do you disrespect them in same way?
Religion does not cause problems humans do.
It will always be there and if it isnt because they are using faith. They will use the colour of your garden fence.lol
My faith is very very strong so nothing essentially bothers me barr the fact you are being disrespectful and think you have right to moan and complain about religion.
Religion is not a superstition,it is a feeling in the heart and soul. For m e personally i lost faith for a while and didnt bother with thinking about it.
Then a good few things happened in my life and i found faith again, not from anyone preaching at me or from anyone convincing me.
But through things no one can even imagine. And i knew then it was real.
So my faith is and never will be doubted by me again.
Stop pointing finger at the faith but at the people who choose to use the faith as their weapon.
God bless you.

I think so.
Religions come and go; it takes some time, of course.
But the spiritual need always exists among most people.
Catholicism and the main religions of world have been around longer than any other religion. So no it doesn't die out.
Why is that Rio because somewhere deep inside the human knows and feels something in the soul?

Godless scum will rot this country from the inside. The cancer that deteriorates from this body is a curse from God.
Eventually we will have to bring them back by force if necessary.

Apart from lobotomy, explain how you "force" someone to actually believe something. You can make them say the words, but you can't make them believe it.

Whacko fundies like yourself, who have absolutely no understanding of the Constitution or democracy are more of a threat to the country than the displeasure you impute to your imaginary friend.

Hi Irish2. Thanks for this and it was worth a reply. Unfortunately it came to over 4,000 characters!:-)

I've noted your points - too many to address all at once and I don't have time for long discussion.

I have made many points and provided examples of how religion is harmful. You have addressed none of them.

I'll address one point you raise...
Best wishes. Nothing personal but religion is superstition,
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/religion
it's divisive, outdated and harmful and I think it won't be mainstream indefinitely. It will be where it belongs in time - marginalised and something sensible people keep out of politics, science, education, morality and the law - if they don't want it politicised and causing trouble.
