A global perspective on Americans’ religiosity offers a few surprises
Are Americans among the most religious people in the world? The answer depends on which "world" you're talking about. If you're referring to the entire planet, the answer is plainly "no."Comments

This survey indicates that Americans are actually less religious than is average internationally, but we are more religious than most of the other wealthy nations. I'm not sure, then, that religiosity is inversely proportional to wealth so much to education. Tis holds up especially well when we look at this article's companion, 'State of the States: Importance of Religion.' The states at the top of the list for quality of education are also at the bottom for religiosity.

The more religious the society, the lower the average education and the greater the propensity for violence.
Religion epitomises the term "Brute force and ignorance". |

Other studies have noted the same basic trend that religion, crime, and education are linked.
According to the "Cross-National Correlations of Quantifiable Societal Health with Popular Religiosity and Secularism in the Prosperous Democracies" (Journal of Religion & Society, Volume 7, 2005) The U.S. has the highest felony crime rate AND the lowest education level in terms of math and sciences of any developed nation. |

Every once in a while, I get a glimmer of hope for the US like this. Now, if only everyone would stop that "it's getting more violent here" canard it just might get better soon.

I think there are also statistical correlations (social safety net)? The USA is also difficult in these comparisons because it is so unique. Perhaps the overwhelming economic dominance and international influence of the USA can tend to make its relatively monolingual population rather isolationist in outlook and less willing to learn from comparisons with other nations? I think there is a natural and understandable tendency for some USAmericans to think "when your society or nation is as successful as ours, we'll see what you've got". |

"I think there are also statistical correlations (social safety net)?" should read....
I think there are also statistical correlations with societies which have great disparities of wealth and the provision of social services like free health care? |

UK, yes, 26.5% ...a broad question: the question "Is religion important in your daily life?" was asked; the "yes" and "no" answers are represented... Discrepancies are due to the "Don't Know" and "Refused" answers. |
