Fairy tale?!?!?!?

Have any of you actually read the Bible.

It's a horror story. This jealous worship-craving being failing at keeping his creations ignorant then tries to win them over by killing the enemies of a small bronze age nomadic tribe with no morals whatsoever.

Slaughtering more then half the egyptions in one night.
Slaughtering the population of the planet becase he wanted to start again. The Khmer Rouge tried the same thing in Cambodia. We don't see them in quite the same light do we?

He let people be raped for the sins of others, killed 48 children with a bear because they teased a prophet for being bald. Made a father think he had to kill his own child.

Fairy story indeed. Then guess who the big baddie is.

My mother passed when I was young... No one has to believe exactly as I do. God's word says...
John 3:16
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that 'Who-so-ever' believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life...
You seem bitter and angry, try not to twist my words...
Have a nice day!!!
So the rest of us who do not believe in him shall perish, no matter how good we are? since you Christians believe that God has unlimited power, then why can't he just say "zap, you are saved?"

Yes. You can't earn your way to heaven by being good. It must be by faith. God gave us free will, so we are not Stepford children.
God could 'Zap' you into anything if he chose too.

I heard many atheists say, the Bible is a fairy tale, it's a 2000year old fairy designed by some man who wanted to free his imagination, and write stories.
But is the Bible really a fairy tale. A fairy tale is a book written for small children, so why is it banned in 53countries of the world. Who bans a fairy tale story.

The bible is a hodge podge collection of heavily rewritten and edited myths.

Nobody's perfect.

I once stuck a toothbrush up another inmates ass then made him swallow it.

I once backhanded a guy in the mouth in a movie theatre while wearing an Alabama football bowl ring and it knocked his front tooth into a woman's bag of popcorn behind him.

So see, nobody's perfect.

Psalm 118: 7-8

7 The Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

It's important to separate the new testament from the old, the new is a book of myth, lies and delusion. The old is historically and theologically accurate. the NT didn't fulfill anything in the OT.

Actually, the Bible specifically says that people will be judged by their works and not by their faith.

Ah, free will.

It always comes back to this. Ok then - care to explain just what "free will" is?

Maybe you'll find a definition in the major works on Christianity.
Here's a link to the Catechism Of The Catholic Church:

http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/_INDEX....

Its 803 pages long and free will doesn't even appear in the index. Clearly free will doesn't figure highly for the vast majority of the world's Christians.

Have you heard of the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia?

No? Well, here it is..

http://www.internationalstandardbible.com/

There are four volumes to it covering a total of just under 4,500 pages. All-in-all, a pretty comprehensive work. There must be a reference to free will in there, eh?

Well...you'll see references for wimples, Moab, power of keys, eunuch, gopher wood, cubit, prayer, etc. You won't find any reference to free will.

What's this all about, eh? Two major and comprehensive works and no mention whatsoever of free will.

Perhaps it's because there's nothing in the Bible that says God gave us free will. That's right, in the whole Bible the subject of God-given free will is conspicuous by its absence.

So when you say that God gave us free will, you're making something up that's not in the Bible.

I'll tell you what is in the Bible though. Scriptures that speak out against free will:

We all know about the incidents where God intervened by hardening people's hearts (Pharaoh & King of Heshbon).

Romans 9:18 tells us how "God chooses to make some people refuse to listen".

Romans 11:32 - "God consigns all men to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them".

Isaiah 63:17 - "Why, Lord, dost thou cause us to stray from thy ways?".

Ephesians 1:11 - Tells us how we were chosen in advance by God and that everything works out in accordance with his plan.

There are other scriptures but it gets tedious hearing pretty much the same thing over and over again. It seems to me that despite what Christians say, according to the Bible, the much-vaunted concept of free will doesn't really have a place in God's world.

Then you are fortunate; you never got to experience the extreme feelings of loneliness within a crowd, as your doubts came to the surface, but everyone around you appears entirely doubt-free.
Of course?
Now, I know better-- my doubts were hardly unique, and the louder a True Believerô claims they are doubt-free? The more likely they are plagued with internal doubts ...
... this is especially true of anyone in a position of leadership.
:)
It appears, that the training that a leader goes through? Actually enhances the doubts he or she experiences...
... ironic?
.. yeah...
But also funny as hell...!
Alas the path to non belief is a personal one.
I have no experience because I never had to follow that path.

I'm certain it is quite difficult for someone who is convinced there's a sky daddy, To abandon this the fear is palpable. Theoretically from Theist point of view you are gambling with salvation and immortality

Rubbish there is no such thing
Now that the Internet and the information age are going full blast and a whole generation of youngsters are coming up and have this information at their fingertips... things will change

I'm glad you overcame your struggle with faith

Irony meter goes up on her percent on this I thought you were an atheist agnostic or whatever you want to call us irreligious people

Yours in Christ
Allah willing

The OT is just as silly. Moses is an amalgamation of various kings and folk legends of the day.
