You mean reverting to the original definition.

Really doesn't matter that much to me.
Today the Minnesota house passed a bill to legalize gay marriage. Should pass the senate and the governor said he will sign the bill. So Minnesota will be the 12 state to legalize gay marriage.
"

Huh. That's actually rational.

"You missed a bit, though.

"Marriage" IS a civil union. You're not legally married unless you get a licence from the County Clerk. Doesn't matter what religious chicken-shaking rituals you've undergone - absent the licence, you're not married.

Now, do you have a difficulty with same-sex couples acquiring a marriage licence?

Only that's just what they're called...
Just what they call it.

<quoted text>100% spot-on correct: there are way too many laws with the word "marriage" or the legal representative of that word, to try to get a parallel-but-equal word past them all.

The simplest solution is marriage equality under the law--as guaranteed by the Constitution-- which also prevents RELIGIOUS inequality, and GENDER inequality too-- from even BEING law.

The easiest way to do that? Strip out any and all language which sets specific definitions of gender in the >>legal<< marriage laws.
Here's an easy fix a little tough for you to figure out but it's what I'm referring to.

A law that states. "A Civil Union shall be treated as equal to a marriage in all laws existing and in the future"

No rewriting all those laws.

<quoted text>Ironically?

The Constitution DOES GUARANTEE marriage equality ALREADY.

ALL the hate-laws that prohibit same-sex marriage are UN-constitutional.

It's just that nobody has bothered-- before now-- to fight them.

You religious bigots have had center-stage for FAR TOO LONG.

You are losing this battle-- and all the rest that you fight.

Which is a good thing.
No not at all. The definition at the time the Constitution was written was "marriage is between one man and one woman." When you quote a law you must use the definitions of the words used as they were defined at the time the law was penned.

Here's the kicker, though: I'm an ordained minister. I plan on officiating at the first lawful gay marriage in this area.

Pro bono.

Now how exactly is that going to affect you?

If it's not (and it won't) you may as well STFU.

[/QUOTE]I'm inclined to think that it's better to be born outside marriage than religious. It's no child's fault to be born 'outside wedlock'. Arguably 'religionist' is more derogatory than 'bastard' in this day and age.

And 'wedlock' is an interesting concept too. It suggests that someone has a key. Or evocative of hemlock.

Hey NUT job listen closely.

Romans didn't speak English so they did not use the would marriage.

Origin: Middle English mariage, from Anglo-French, from marier to marry.
First use: 14th century
