Atheist Islamophobia... Again

There are 3765 comments on the Religion Dispatched story from Apr 9, 2013, titled Atheist Islamophobia... Again. In it, Religion Dispatched reports that:

Sparked by a Richard Dawkins tweet , in which he drew a parallel between Islamists and Nazis, Nathan Lean recently suggested on Salon.com that the most famous representatives of the new atheism "flirt with" Islamophobia [echoing Chris Stedman's prescient warning to fellow atheists on RD this past August]. As the article explains, Dawkins, Hitchens ... (more)

No they haven't been reported by the BBC. You tell me where it says Muslims rioting in Stockholm.
Quote, "In Husby, more than 80% of the 12,000 or so inhabitants are from an immigrant background, and most are from Turkey, the Middle East and Somalia."
Hardly avoids the fact that most were Muslims, I wouldn't have thought. They aren't rioting because they are Muslim, although I would describe that as a contributory factor. I certainly don't suggest that integration seems a particular problem for 'Islamic communities'. The BBC perhaps take too much care not to confuse rioting Muslims with all Muslims.

Most British Muslims are as disgusted with the Woolwich attackers as you or I, don't you think?

The EDL march was on BBC on Weds, but they didn't show the Muslims over the road did they? Did they show the Muslims singing in the streets in Oldham? No they didn't.
Perhaps, I don't watch the BBC that much. I mostly watch Al-Jazeera and CNN and get most of my news from the Internet and publications ranging from the Economist to New Scientist.

If the EDL want to be seen as more than nut-jobs, they will need to remove the convicted criminal who is their 'President' and elect someone more representative...

or it isn't unreasonable (or being a nutjob as you put it) to assume he is representative of EDL supporters and they get tolerably appropriate coverage.

If you do in fact live in the UK, you are one of two things....1. A leftwing nutjob....or 2. A Muslim. Either way you are not gonna admit the truth. See ya.
Typical British manners these days. That'll help the UK's image.

No I don't. And neither do you. There were Hindus Sikhs, Nigerians, Christians etc there today crying for that poor poor lad's family. Not one Muslim to say 'Not in Our Name'. We marched to oppose Iraq didn't we? They don't give a toss.

Well if you don't watch the BBC, don't contradict me. They report sweet FA until it's all over. They are famous for it, as you should surely know.

Look at my last 2 two posts to you again. I forgot to address it to you so reposted it. Why do you keep spouting this shite at me. I am not a holy Joe and I don't care. We don't have to know the ins and outs of everything. We are here, live, die that's it. I am, as you know talking about Muslims who kill those that don't believe their shite. Don't come back at me with your attempts at smoke and mirrors. It's boring.

Interesting. Sorry I don't feel I can entirely trust you as a source. I mean, perhaps I defend British Muslims unduly, but have you considered (for instance) that it might be somewhat dangerous to be a Muslim in Woolwich at this point? I don't suppose a Mosque or Muslim Council would think to organise such a thing from what I know of them.

I didn't. And that is another topic.

I was raised in South London, by the way. It's changed a lot since then. Do you have any first-hand knowledge of what occurred in John Wilson St and the immediate vicinity?(I was going to give this up for tonight, but you piqued my interest)

Yes I do. My cousins husband was staying over the road from the barracks and there were hundreds of young muslims outside where he was. He has it on his phone. That k?

No it isn't another topic. I marched. It's called empathy, back up and a bit of respect. It's all one way traffic though.

That does not answer my question: would YOU fight for ME to continue living?

Me, a self-professed atheist?

I know you said you'd fight for your country-- but that's hardly the same thing, is it?

Especially considering how many of you Genuine Christians™ consider atheists to "not really be US citizens anyway" ....

... in this way, you can justify both fighting for your country, but REFUSING to fight for the rights of atheists to even be alive.

So I ask you again: would you?

(I doubt you'll bother an answer...)

I agree-- he's not done as well as I expected from a man as educated as he is.

Then again? He's had to suffer 37 useless repeals of Obamacare by the Republicans (wasting 50 million tax-dollars), and even more useless and cannot-pass wastes of time by Republicans, along with them refusing to even TALK to the President?

Well.... considering that? I think he's doing... amazing.

Anyone kidding themselves that Islam is the religion of peace, wanting to assimilate just need to look at us. A soldier gets beheaded on a London Street and we are called right wing if we don't like it. A French soldier stabbed in the throat yesterday and it's nit even reported on BBC. Muslims riot in Sweden and not a word from any British media. It is not a good place to live.
You get no argument from me: religion, regardless of the god it purports to worship, is prone to violence.

Islam, Christianity, Judiasm? It's all the same from where I sit: people deluded into violent actions, based on books written during the Bronze Age, complete with Bronze Age "morality"....

How dare you stereotype me. You know nothing about me. But you will. I too am an immigrant. I am Irish born. My parents came here during the 70s as Ireland was on it's arse due to embargos by the British. Left school at 15, went on the beer and partied before meeting my man. Worked all my life, am now worth about 3 million.I have more reason than any muslim to hate the British. They nearly wiped us out. But they have given me and my family a living, so I must respect their country and it's people. Unlike those animals.
