Atheist Islamophobia... Again

There are 3766 comments on the Religion Dispatched story from Apr 9, 2013, titled Atheist Islamophobia... Again. In it, Religion Dispatched reports that:

Sparked by a Richard Dawkins tweet , in which he drew a parallel between Islamists and Nazis, Nathan Lean recently suggested on Salon.com that the most famous representatives of the new atheism "flirt with" Islamophobia [echoing Chris Stedman's prescient warning to fellow atheists on RD this past August]. As the article explains, Dawkins, Hitchens ... (more)

I undrstand that. That fact is, both Christians and Muslims use their respective holy books to support their actions. That's the main problem with all religions... their holy books can be used to support all the good intentions along with all the bad ones.

Every place in this world that "it" has touched has become a killing field, Indonesa, the philipines, America, Syria, Libya, Tunisa, Egypt, Saudi, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Russia, England, Africa and I could go on and on. I'm not ignorant or filled with hate, killing is a way of life for muslims the world over. Where is all of the conflict in the world today, why I'll be damn, it's in all countries that have large numbers muslims. The extremists say that they want to defend their land and country and Islam allows them to do this. this is how they explain their unacceptable behaviors. By saying we are simply defending our lands. And Islam does allow one to defend themselves, their land, and their property. But in Islam if you want to do this there are rules you have to follow. Like you can't kill innocent people (children, elderly, women, the sick, etc.).Only soldiers who attack you. Also, we can not cut down trees or destroy holy places. There are more but I but I can't currently remember them all.
The best example I have for you that you probably heard of in following the rules of "Islamic Jihad," is Salahuddin Ayubi.

I have a problem with the hate and intolerance found within the Koran. If there were Bible passages commanding Christians or Jews to kill unbelievers and subjugate other religions and force them to live as second hand citizens you think there would be some criticism of that? You bet there would so why are we silent about that same kind of hate inside the Koran and it is being taught to young impressionable minds who one day grow up into mean and violent adults.

Listen, my intention was to clarify the misconception that Islam allows suicide bombing. When I said suicide is forbidden in Islam, no one cared and still linked it to Islam. Although, that is far from the truth. Do you think I shouldn't have corrected them?
"To do that, you have to look at the world with you mind's eyes not hindered with glasses tinted with assumptions that you refuse to question, that fails to see the whole due to a focus that has become tunnel vision."
And what makes you think I didn't question "my assumptions?"
I use to be what you guys call "militant atheist." Even some atheist thought I was to hard on Islam. So how is that I didn't question it?
To clear up that misconception, Islamic sources would have been better. It's always best to approach a subject straight-on. Trying to show that suicide bombings are an aberration in Islamic culture (something about which I agree) by talking about the Tamil Tigers led readers away from your point instead of toward it.

It would have been better to lead with the text of the prohibitions that apply and follow up with condemnations of suicide bombing from mainstream Ullamas and Mujtahids. It would not have convinced those who hate Islam, but they are unreachable anyway. you could also point out that with a worldwide muslim population of about 1.6 billion people, if suicide bombings were a significant part of Muslim culture, we'd see an awful lot more of them.

Hacks always seem to over-think and complicate their subjects. The best writers reduce subjects to their essentials.

Through creative use of NOTEPAD.

Hit reply, then copy the entire thing in the edit box (select everything-- Control-A, then copy, Control-C.

Mouse over to the notepad-- click in it-- paste-- Control-V.

Then back to your browser, click the BACK button on your browser's button-bar.

Then select the next poster-- hit REPLY, again select everything, copy, paste into NOTEPAD below the previous...

... then BACK again, rinse, repeat.

Once you have everything you want in NOTEPAD, select everything and then go back to Topix-- at that point, I typically just go to the bottom edit box, and then paste everything in.

I then check for spelling errors in my own words (built in to Firefox, red-underlined words are misspelled) and finally post the whole.

I also make use of a 3rd party CLIPBOARD enhancement, called ArsClip (use google for where to get). It's free, and preserves the last 20 or so copy & pastes. It also lets me make permanent items to paste.

With that little utility running, I can skip using NOTEPAD, and just copy each of the poster's stuff I want into ArsClip, then paste them into the bottom edit-box.

What is a Christmas goose?

Anyways, let me ask you something since you've been to all the "Muslim" countries. In Egypt, why was the revolution about reviving Islam, if Egypt was already governed by Islam? Why Couldn't a person carry a Quran outside in Syria before the revolution and still, if it is a "Muslim" country? Why is the Syrian President making Muslims worship him when that is the greatest Sin in Islam?
There is no real Muslim country today and their will never be one with out Khalifah. You know there is no Muslim country without a Khalifah. And you have no one to think but the Saudi royal family. You really don't want to get me started on how unIslamic "cradle of islam" is.

It is a classic con game.

What's worse? The "product" is 100% fiction!

And the "beauty" of it all (if you can call it that) the golden apple cannot be delivered until the customer is safely dead (and cannot complain).

They create a false need, "sin" (which has no real-world meaning), and the sell the "cure"....

.... and sell is the operative word:

Just TRY being a member in >>any<< church without dropping a load of cash-money in the coffer....

... you'll be ex-communicated in an instant.

Most religious texts contain "instructions" for just about everything most civilized peoples see as abhorant today.

History shows that religion and government don't mix. Having a governemt based on ancient religous writings does nothing but lend a percieved level of credability to that religion. Once that happens it becomes much easier to pursuade normally peaceful people to commit horrible atrocities aganst their fellow man all in the name of a religion that has nothing but words in an ancient book, warm fuzzy feelings and "I said so" as a basis for belief.

The most violent contries in the world are also the most religious. Coincidence?

I understand your point and would've more than happily used Islamic source but I couldn't without someone say I'm trying to convert them or that I'm cherry picking the verses I like.
Trust me, it would've been easier for me to do this.

"O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful." (Quran ch.4, verse 29).

Do you understand what I mean and where I'm coming from now?

Indeed.

At least the modern age is slightly less gullible.

Back in the day?

There was enough "preserved" wood from the One True Cross™ to build a football stadium-- several times over.

And enough knuckle-bones from "St Paul" for about a hundred people's worth of finger-bones...

.. not to mention pieces of shrubbery that is Guaranteed to have come from that infamous burning bush.

It really is quite amusing.

Someone told me that in each Genuine Catholic™ church, there is one of those magic Genuine Catholic Relic™, carefully sanctified by the Holy C. Seriously.

And more? I'm told there is a special ceremony to remove these relics, for return to the Vatican.....!

Hilarious!
