Atheist Islamophobia... Again

There are 3765 comments on the Religion Dispatched story from Apr 9, 2013, titled Atheist Islamophobia... Again. In it, Religion Dispatched reports that:

Sparked by a Richard Dawkins tweet , in which he drew a parallel between Islamists and Nazis, Nathan Lean recently suggested on Salon.com that the most famous representatives of the new atheism "flirt with" Islamophobia [echoing Chris Stedman's prescient warning to fellow atheists on RD this past August]. As the article explains, Dawkins, Hitchens ... (more)

Yeah, but the Christians that commit suicide aren't following the teaches of Christianity, so why would anyone say that Christianity teaches suicide? It doesn't make any sense.
Same thing with Islam.
"Islam" amd "Christianity" may not teach suicide... but the extremeist leaders among those religous beliefs do

Exactly my point.
You need to learn to recognize the 'trolls'(they are easy to spot) and ignore them. If you're truly interested in discussion, only reply to posts that you feel are worth your while and ignore the ones that are clearly intended to piss you off

Only if you're desparate to believe they're right. That's it, isn't it? You're desparate to believe there is no God. You can't touch something with your hand, so it cannot exist. How sad to be you.

What a disgusting religion
All religions that operate by instilling fear (damnation) and sell a product you can't have until you die (paradise) are disgusting.

i don't believe anything about gods.

i know the god of your cult is a myth. that is proven.

there is not one shred of evidence of any real god, gods or goddesses. when there is the first shred of evidence, then the discussion of it can start. until then, it is a non-issue.

it's like discussing if the easter bunny exists.

it must be sad to be you, living for a proven myth.

Multiple windows and cut-n-paste. make sure you include the "quote boxes" before and after

I do that the lazy way:

1. Right-click one of the posts and open it in another tab

2. go to the other post and hit the reply button

3. go the the second tab and hit the reply button for the second post

4. copy the contents of the reply box

5. close the second tab

6. in the first tab, paste the contents of the second reply box into the first one above or below the text that's already there, depending on what order you want them to appear.

Voilà!

Argument from authority is NEVER good enough for me. Pape's studies are good, but when he ventures into the realm of personal opinion, he is as fallible as anyone, including Dawkins. Following the development of a phenomenon like suicide bombing is not about letting one group off the hook by pointing at another, nor are diverse groups comparable in terms of tactics and aims.
You have to look at the whole picture, that's true, but separate parts of that picture don't always connect neatly and cleanly as though they were pieces of a puzzle. Real life is messy, and simple approaches to understanding it almost alway fail. Raising Pape like a battle flag with Dawkins' alongside it reflects a shallow approach to analysis, one based on the need to win a debate, not on the desire to increase your understanding.
I'm criticizing your posts for a reason, and it's not to "win." I see in you a potentially fine mind beheld back by its preconceptions. I want you to grow. To do that, you have to look at the world with you mind's eyes not hindered with glasses tinted with assumptions that you refuse to question, that fails to see the whole due to a focus that has become tunnel vision.
To gain the best view of reality, let go of the need to be right.
Listen, my intention was to clarify the misconception that Islam allows suicide bombing. When I said suicide is forbidden in Islam, no one cared and still linked it to Islam. Although, that is far from the truth. Do you think I shouldn't have corrected them?
"To do that, you have to look at the world with you mind's eyes not hindered with glasses tinted with assumptions that you refuse to question, that fails to see the whole due to a focus that has become tunnel vision."
And what makes you think I didn't question "my assumptions?"
I use to be what you guys call "militant atheist." Even some atheist thought I was to hard on Islam. So how is that I didn't question it?

I am open minded. Why else would I be here? I could be on Islam topix with like minded individuals. but I am here with not only people who don't share the same believe as me but also don't know anything about it.
At least those who are truthful will tell you don't know much about Islam or Muslims.

I can see that. Most of the atheists here fall into two categories: Intelligent/respectful and ignorant/rude. I try to ignore the ones who fall in to the second category.

That was my point. That there is the religion and then there are the followers. And sometimes the actions of the followers don't reflect the religion. That was it.

there is not one shred of evidence of any soul for there to be life after this one.

the fear of death is the key tool these cults use to get people to become indoctrinated and obey.

you just try to ignore the ones that you cannot answer. the ones that make you faith uncomfortable. the ones that can show you have been lied to by your cult...
