There are 3765 comments on the Religion Dispatched story from Apr 9, 2013, titled Atheist Islamophobia... Again. In it, Religion Dispatched reports that:

Sparked by a Richard Dawkins tweet , in which he drew a parallel between Islamists and Nazis, Nathan Lean recently suggested on Salon.com that the most famous representatives of the new atheism "flirt with" Islamophobia [echoing Chris Stedman's prescient warning to fellow atheists on RD this past August]. As the article explains, Dawkins, Hitchens ... (more)

showing you clear and verifiable facts is insulting your beliefs? if hte real world doesn't gibe with your beliefs, that seems to be your problem, not mine.

a rational person would then look at their belief system and see why they don't line up with the real world.

<quoted text>You wouldn't believe me, regardless of what I say, so oh well. Again though, I'll let Him tell me. Pretty funny your reference to Hitler- he was a BIG collector of Christian artifacts- I've only got the one thing. It also doesn't bother me that you believe people who argue with you are arrogant- that's the usual attitude of athiests. And their judgement.
I never said people who argue with me were arrogant. People who call other people names "Like SPORT" are arrogant. I thought a good christian as yourself would have something good to say, to pursway others to his ways, and not lies.

Hi Ed, Some fundies take the sexist words of Paul in the Bible literally. They think women should not be priests and not allowed to speak in church. Some fundie imans have the same attitude, and think that its ok for child marriages and polygamy.

These brainwashed idiots need to get into the 21st century and not live their lives by rules of primitive and barbaric people.

Hi woodtick, thats what I did when I deconverted. I finally examined my belief system rationally, and saw that my beliefs could not be justified by the evidence. the evidence is of course that religion is man made and that the bible is a hodge podge of myths and absurd stories.

Yes, they cherry-pick

Actually, there is a case for polygamous marriages. I knew a man and two women who lived quite happily and responsibly together. However, thanks to religious fundies polygamy is currently as closely associated with oppression of women as is Islamism.

Agreed. The world would be a more unified and harmonious place without religion.

I don't use the term belief system myself as I think it unconsciously incorporates religous thinking. I don't profess to have a belief system and think the very concept both flawed and outdated.

One should only believe anything as far as the belief(s) is(are) justified by reason and evidence.

There shouldn't be any 'system' to what one believes. The idea of having a 'system of beliefs' seems distinctly and inherently dogmatic. I find it unhelpful at best and view it as a relic of more religious days.

And that case can be made for female-centered polygamy as well. what woman hasn't occasionally wished she could slip into another lover's bed while her satisfied mate slept in bliss beside her?

Of course!

All religion is fundamentally based on HATE.

Without that HATE, the religion would not thrive--it would quickly be eclipsed by more hate-based faiths.

So it is highly likely that there are any number of religious haters who would see me dead, as give me the time of day.

And that is why all religious beliefs are so deserving of being insulted.

For they are hate-based memes.

I see you are a participant too.

Pity.

I expect a REAL GOD to behave ... godly.

If I, a mere mortal human, can find FATAL FLAWS in this "god"?

Then it is hardly deserving of the title, is it?

MIGHT DOES NOT MAKE RIGHT.

That is a fatal error on your part, you see.

Thank you for agreeing that your god is just a myth.

A myth conjured in the insane imaginations of people full of hate for their fellows-- so much hate, that they had to figure out a way to ACT OUT that hate-- so they created these gods, to "justify" their acts of barbarism.

I have no doubts at all, that you would fit right in-- you already display your hate for others, in your comments of derision.

Keep up the hate-- it reveals who you really are...

even more so, if you are more moral than this supposed god, that wouldnot bode well for the existence of this god, would it.

now this god supports slavery in very clear and direct terms. no doubt about it.

do you support slavery, bob?

Only to people who lack the ability to think.

Sad.

Lewis is one of those Christian Apoligizers-- you know-- someone who tries in vain, to excuse the excesses and atrocity that is within the ugly bible.

He did not succeed-- the bible is as ugly and abhorrent as always.

But Lewis was successful in making the bible look even more silly than before.

That is a victory of sorts, I suppose...

I have to say you give me more credit then I deserve, I have been just as loud as my atheist comrades and have used fowl language to make my points, if you got to know me better you would have a different opinion on my normality, unlike you I respect someone’s religion like I respect homeopathy, for example my response to what you tell Christians.
You and the Christians have one thing in common, both of you think that your religion builds on the Jewish foundation as willed by God. So one would expect the both Christianity and Islam to have nothing contradicting Judaism, but yet the good and omnipotent lord cannot do this simple task.
Christ despite saying he didn’t come to overrule the old laws of Judaism did so away many times, like stopping the stoning of an adulterer http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/... now the old laws say she should have been stoned! And that this law was given by God, but yet Christ the son of God stopped it anyway. Did he disobey God? No Christ is good and disobeying is bad. Did the law change? No God’s word is unchanging.
Now on to the Islam, because you referred to you creation I must ask “why is your creation story different to the Jews?” Did God forget how it created the cosmos!? Did the Jews mishear and God didn’t correct them!? God’s word is suppose to be unchanging but yet God seems to have failed this (I cannot stress enough) simple task! One can only conclude that at least someone is guilty of stupidity in the highest degree and thus, both Islam and Christianity are as guilty as the founders of these religions.
Every dog has it's day.
Anyways, the only reason I tell Christians that is because they don't want to discuss religion but tell me Islam is wrong and Jesus is the only, if I don't want to go to hell. So I simply tell them why I don't believe in Christianity. They don't want to discuss, just sell Christianity. so by say no, we both save time.

I'm the only female in my family who wears hijab. I grew up in a VERY secular home. My family is the definition of assimilation. But that's because we live in the states.
People don't assimilate will in other western countries. That's my opinion anyways.
