A Church-Shaped Hole in Our Lives

Mar 1, 2014 Full story: Time 38

One common dilemma today is this: Knowing what we now know - from geology, cosmology, and evolutionary biology - many people find it just impossible to believe in any kind of supernatural entity.

Get real! Maybe that hole really is more a prayer rug shaped hole, or a witch doctor shaped hole, or even a Zombie Christ shaped hole. Or maybe it's just pure imagination, just one more crutch for the willing to be propped up, by whatever presents itself. Who are you to say for anyone besides yourself?

Yes. One has to suspect the motives of those who presume to speak for others, much less the whole of humanity.

I find it amusing, that the god-besotted are so desperate to confirm their delusions, that they project them onto everyone they meet.

It's also kind of sad.

When I was a child, I looked to my parents to take care of me. There was great comfort in knowing that those bigger, wiser people would protect me and fill all my needs. Now, I find equal fulfillment in being an adult, taking care of my own family and dealing with problems on my own.

Likewise, when I was a child, I believed what I was taught about there being an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving god who was looking out for me. It was comforting. As I grew, I saw less and less evidence for such a deity, until I no longer could even pretend to believe. Now, I accept the challenge of living in reality, and I find reality just as fulfilling as my previous fantasy.

I do not long for a return to childhood and dependency, nor for a return to religion and that form of dependency.

I have a community of friends and associates who provide all the "moral community" I need. I don't miss church and don't need a church-lite substitute.

I was looking for something else when I came upon this quote.

When one has not had a good father, one must create one.

Friedrich Nietzsche

I think that sums up why some folks think there is a church shaped hole in their lives.

Because man was created with the desire to worship, it is only reasonable
there are so many different things worshiped today.

It is also reasonable that everything has a purpose, the Bible is only there for people who want to find God and the truth. It is the people who misuse God's word and make it invalid, therefore you must find the one religion God is using to accomplish his will on Earth today.

If not, then enjoy what life you have left, the end is getting more critical than ever, the now global signs are only evidence it is getting very close.
Luke 21:22-28

It is now time to start your personal Bible study with Jehovah's witnesses so you can be educated in truth, then make your decision whether to love and serve the one true God of the Bible, Almighty God Jehovah as Jesus taught.

The person who does not believe in God, is a god to himself.
That person must worship and appreciate his accomplishments or someone elses and rely on his own ability and effort to have success.
By your fruits you will be identified as successful or wanting.
That is why the Bible says, if you do not believe in God, you are a fool, and the person who teaches lies about God is called a blind guide.

A person who needs no gods will not make one of himself. Some of us live simply from day to day without worrying about appreciation or contrived standards of success or failure. We see, hear, fell, smell, even taste what is around us, free from the imaginings of those who rely on faith when direct perception is much easier and more reliable.

The Bible notwithstanding, reality is what it is.
