A Really Good Thing
We had just gotten home from a trip up to Oregon and I was helping my wife unpack everything and then the kids needed this and that and then one of our cats had a plugged-up urethra and was moaning something heinous and I had to return the rental car before they closed and of course we still needed to get to the market -- and then the phone rang.

The thrust of this article is that the increase in skepticism and secularism that this century has seen so far is a good thing. Secular thought lends itself better to solving pressing problems on a global scale, enhances a cosmopolitanism that mitigates tribalism and divisiveness, and encourages focus on the here-and-now, which also enhances society's ability to take immediate action to solve both immediate and long-range problems. Zuckerman acknowledges the benefits of religion even as he underscores their downsides.
His thinking is very close to my own.
